Explore the New Visions Career Directory, empowering NYC students with cost-effective or free postsecondary Career Training Programs, including training, certifications, internships, support services, and job placement assistance! https://lnkd.in/dWhiuE-p Educators can access resources that include lesson plans, career assessments, and worksheets for students for one-on-one advising or for group work. Hear from one of our educators: “I have juniors and seniors in my College Seminar Class login to use the Directory each year. For students that are not interested in going to college or are unsure about college as their pathway, it gives them lots of information at their fingertips to find and explore. There is no way I could give them all these options to search. The students like that they can search by borough, by career type/program, and by free or fee. The seniors use it in the spring to find things to apply to after they have finished their CUNY Application, since all seniors apply to CUNY at our school. The juniors use it in the spring when we are making college lists and investigating pathways before senior year. I am excited about the improvements with more ways to search and more information!” - David Buie, College Advisor at Bronx Leadership Academy II

Today, we had an incredible day at our New Visions Science Leadership Institute! School and district leaders from across New York City, along with New Visions staff, came together to build their capacity in monitoring and supporting the effective and sustained implementation of New Visions Science materials. It was inspiring to see everyone engaged, learning, and collaborating to enhance science education for students in New York City Public Schools. Thank you to the WestEd team for helping facilitate this exciting day!

Congratulations Jonathan Xique!! Wishing you all the best!
In June, New Visions for Public Schools hosted the Opportunity Scholarship reception, where we celebrated the 134 students across our Affinity network who are receiving scholarships to support their postsecondary futures. Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, New Visions awards either $10K multi-year grants or $2K one-time grants to Black and Latino male students in the New Visions network to support their postsecondary transitions to college or an accredited career training program. The scholars were welcomed by thoughtful remarks by Odette Duggan, Chief of Staff of the Office of HS Superintendent; Randy Bowen, College and Career Counselor at Community Health Academy of the Heights; Greg Lucas, Director of SEL and School Culture at New Visions; and Mark Dunetz, President of New Visions. The theme of "Staying the Course" permeated the entire event and was embraced by the scholars, who used their time within the workshops to ask thoughtful questions, participate in the engagement activities, and practice their networking skills with each other and the adults in the space. Congratulations to the 2024 Opportunity Scholarship winners! We are so excited to see what you do next.

Great to see the work of The Heritage School, a longtime New Visions Affinity partner school, highlighted in the news. Principal Dyanand Sugrim and the wonderful team at Heritage demonstrate what it looks like when talented educators meet the needs of students, families and their community.

The New Visions Student Advisory Network is a space where students use research skills to collaboratively work on projects and provide recommendations to improve the work of New Visions on both a school and systemic level. This was the 7th year of the program! This cohort of student participants focused their research on how to increase student voice and engagement in their schools. Earlier this month, students shared their final presentations, which covered topics from the clarity of grading rubrics, to the power of choosing your own elective courses, to student engagement in clubs and activities. Congratulations to all the New Visions Student Advisory Network participants! Your engagement in your school community and determination to make a positive impact was exciting to see!

We hosted #PortalPalooza2024 here at New Visions earlier this month! It was so inspiring to learn about how educators and district leaders use the Portal to improve student outcomes, from addressing chronic absenteeism to tracking high impact tutoring. A special thank you to these folks for sharing their experiences! Attendees also provided ideas to the Portal development team about their hopes and dreams for new Portal features. We are so excited to explore these innovative ideas!

New Visions is thrilled to announce that we have been selected as a Phase 1 winner in Siegel Family Endowment and the Walton Family Foundation's $2.2 million #LearningLandscapes Challenge. With our proposed solution, we hope to improve outcomes for young people and families living in shelters in three critical areas — academic success, social and emotional support, and resource and benefits access — through a data-sharing collaboration and system for collecting and responding to family needs. Our work is part of the Every Child and Family Is Known initiative, in collaboration with the NYC Department of Homeless Services, NYC Public Schools, and The Children's Cabinet. As we begin the Phase 2 accelerator, read more about our concept and what comes next: https://bit.ly/4czLvf8
