Breathing Science is Life
About us
For more than 124 years, National Jewish Health has been at the forefront of research and medicine. We integrate the latest scientific discoveries with coordinated care for pulmonary, cardiac, immune and related conditions. National Jewish Health physicians and researchers are at the forefront of a new era in health care that embraces a personalized, preventive approach to medicine. We understand that each person is unique, and their variations in diet, environment, personal habits and DNA all influence their individual health. That is why two different people are exposed to certain conditions and only one gets sick and why certain treatments may work for one person and not for another. With a focus on personalized medicine, our researchers are looking at environment-gene interaction and making strides in predicting, preventing, treating and tracking many diseases. This proactive approach to medicine means that if you have a disease, or the probability of getting a disease, it may be detected sooner so that you may live longer, healthier and with a better quality of life. Our research is truly transforming the lives of millions. By using an individual's DNA to predict and prevent disease, to guide the right choice of therapy to limit side effects and bring higher success rates for treatments and to be able to track the effects of these therapies, National Jewish Health is working to improve health care for the future.

Today is #WorldBronchiectasisDay. Bronchiectasis is a disease of the airway becoming inflamed, irreversibly dilated, and impacted with mucus. Impaired mucociliary clearance may be a source of recurrent infections and worsening of the disease process, so a variety of ways have been developed to help accentuate mucus removal from the bronchial airway. We are pleased to share this free #CME program, Keeping Pace with Bronchiectasis: Early Diagnosis, Management, and Emerging Treatments featuring Charles L. Daley, MD, Steven E. Lommatzsch, MD and Pamela J. McShane, MD. Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to: 1, Review bronchiectasis burden, etiologies, and risk factors. 2. Apply best practices for early diagnosis of bronchiectasis. 3. Identify the role of neutrophilic inflammation in patients with bronchiectasis. 4. Select best options for management of bronchiectasis. An estimated 35% of people living with cystic fibrosis (CF) – including both children and adults – are unaware that they have the condition. Failure to detect CF at newborn screening may lead to diagnostic delays persisting as long as into adulthood. Missed or delayed diagnoses of CF and CFTR-related disorders can have important implications for disease progression and health outcomes. Participants in this program will increase their awareness about missed diagnoses of CF, examine factors that lead to missed diagnoses including race, rare mutations and pancreatic sufficiency, and analyze options for patient testing and treatment of suspected CF and CFTR-related disorders. This online program is led by Dr. Jennifer Taylor-Cousar, MD, MSCS, ATSF; Dr. Jared J. Eddy, MD, MPhil, MSc; and Sara Dederman Brayshaw, RN, BS, MSN. Target Audience: Infectious Disease Physicians, Pulmonologists, Gastroenterologists, Primary Care Physicians, advanced practice providers and registered nurses. 1.0 CME/CNE https://brnw.ch/21wKRUw
