When designing Stella's age demographics, Nathan asked me why I capped the age targeting at 65+. The short answer is because all the ad platforms do it. Well, today I am having second thoughts. Facebook started 20 years ago, when platforms assumed less diversity in online behaviours for 65+, when less than 2% of them used any social media (in US at least). The audience size was simply not broad enough for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter to offer any more granular age demographic targeting. But today the 65 - 69 year olds are digital-savvy and most importantly quite diverse in their online behaviours to people in the 70-79 bracket.
