We love sharing that we are a Top 100 Hospital in the nation, putting us among the Top 2% of hospitals nationwide. We also love to share our other accolades and accreditations, but it really comes down to our patients. We recently received a letter from a patient's partner about the care they received while at MountainView. It is stories like these that drive us. Thank you for allowing us to care for you and your loved ones. The blog story "The Light" tells about their experience while in our NSICU. We recently asked some of our colleagues why they chose healthcare as a career. Their stories are inspiring! Caitlin Gregory, OTR/L, OTD "I always knew I wanted to be a healthcare professional, but I needed to figure out to what capacity. When I was a Freshman in college, my mom (who is a nurse) broke her wrist and began seeing an occupational therapist (OT). My mom recommended I shadow/observe the OT to see if I could imagine myself doing it. After one or two days of observation, I knew I was interested in this profession. Long story short, I shadowed many OTs following that day and loved every minute of it! Since graduating from OT school, I've worked in inpatient rehab for (almost) two years and am beyond thankful I chose this profession. OTs are unique because we are trained to look at each person holistically and assist individuals in what is important/meaningful to them. As an OT, we assist individuals in learning or regaining skills that impact their daily lives. We address the essentials required to complete tasks and reach independence. Each day, I feel grateful to assist people of all ages from all walks of life in achieving their goals and maximizing independence. OT truly is the best job in the world!" Thank you Caitlin for sharing your "why."

Each month we recognize our colleagues who go above and beyond in caring for our community. Today we recognize Corine M., PT, Rehab, for Quality Outcomes! Here is what Corine's nomination said: "MountainView Hospital Rehab had the privilege of assisting with the rehabilitation of a 44-year-old husband and father of three, who had been hospitalized for more than eight months, complicated by multiple surgeries and setbacks. While the recovery of this patient is inspiring and worth celebrating, this iCare award is meant to acknowledge and highlight something equally as inspiring. As many would understand, being away from family while battling life threatening disease and debility, would have significant consequences on anyone’s ability to feel upbeat, encouraged for the future, and your general happiness. …Enter Corine. From the first time that Corine was assigned to work with this patient as his Physical Therapist, she was determined to not only give him the tools he would need from a physical standpoint for his recovery, but to also give him the encouragement and personal connection to not only rehab his body, but his spirit as well. Recognizing that the patient’s demeanor would fluctuate drastically, and using her experience to know that he needed consistent and frequent positive encouragement, Corine volunteered to work every session of PT that this patient needed. She arranged her schedule to be here on the weekends with the dedication and focus to drive improvements in his recovery, and eventually to get him home. She was always the perfect cheerleader for this patient, right up to the day he walked out the door on his own two feet. Corine also went out of her way to plan and carry out his own personalized celebration parade to celebrate his major life accomplishment. While the rehabilitation of this patient, as well as all others, was very much a success of teamwork, and an iCare could go out to all of the individuals who played a significant part in his recovery (Case Managers, Nurses, Doctors, other therapists, etc.), Corine deserves a special recognition as a major driver in his eventual success and return home to his family. Well done Corine. Thank you for spreading joy to this patient and to all of your colleagues!"

Congratulations to Daisy Award Nurse Leader Q1 Winner, Julie L., 5 South CNC! The Daisy Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. Our Daisy Award winners go above and beyond for our patients and colleagues. Here is what a group of colleagues said about Julie: "This nurse leader always goes above and beyond. She deserves this award wholeheartedly. She creates a supportive, safe space for nurses and patients. She advocates for patients and helps them understand the treatment they are receiving. This nurse leader is also very proactive as a CNC, eager to jump in and help wherever and whenever needed. There are times when a nurse needs an item, she would immediately stop what she's doing to go and find the item that the nurse needs even if it is on a different unit. When she is in charge, I know that I will have a great day. She is a 5-star leader and she deserves every bit of this nomination. We are grateful to be led by a CNC as caring as her." Congratulations Julie and thank you for being a compassionate, proactive leader!
