"Decoding Depression" 👉 Diffusion tensor imaging of the 3D white matter structure in a patient living with #Depression and using #DeepBrainStimulation. This image highlights the target network for stimulation and decoding the depression state from chronic recordings. Each year, The BRAIN Initiative invites neuroscience researchers engaged with or interested in the BRAIN Initiative to submit their most creative, beautiful, and inspiring images or short videos of the brain. As BRAIN commemorates 10 years of BRAIN-funded research, they also selected one photo and one video for a special “BRAIN at 10” category. Finalists, along with this year's winners, represent the progress in brain and neuroscience research since the BRAIN Initiative issued its first awards in 2014. Please help us welcome Benjamin Ferleger as our Senior Biomedical Scientist! Ben brings over a decade of experience in neurotechnology. He completed his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Washington, having successfully developed and demonstrated closed-loop deep brain stimulation for essential tremor in freely moving patients. During his postdoc at the University of Pennsylvania, Ben was focused on novel approaches to restoring somatosensation after spinal cord injury and stroke through direct cortical and subcortical stimulation. He also spent time developing noninvasive neurological monitoring tools for epilepsy. 🧠 Excited to have you aboard, Ben! 🚂
