🌊 Do you know how to swim??? In Miami, drowning is the #1 cause of death for children under the age of 9. And it is preventable. I'm so proud that this week we helped co-launch the ✨Zero-Drowning Initiative✨ with a promise to bring free swim lessons to every child in Miami-Dade County. 10 swim lessons to be exact. This is happening because everyone came together - The Children's Trust of Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, American Red Cross - South Florida Region, The Miami Foundation, United Way Miami, Edu Foundation, the Templeton Family Foundation, and so many others. I'm blown away by the leadership of Natalia Zea, James Haj, and Ken Hoffman at The Children's Trust for building this bold coalition, and so proud that The Miami Foundation is housing the effort. And a huge thank you to our team, especially Tiffany Wilson-Worsley for doing the hard work of helping get this off the ground on our end. No small goals. Best collaboration of the summer thus far.
