July is Disability Pride Month! ❤️💛🤍💙💚
At the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, we offer Employee Resource Groups (ERG) dedicated to fostering a safe space for different communities and allies. Our ERGs play a vital role in our organization by celebrating all cultures and identities, encouraging employees to express concerns, ideas, and experiences, and promoting allyship and empathy among members.
The Disability Inclusion and Ableism Awareness ERG was created to expand awareness of the experiences of people with disabilities and their families, deepening empathy and inclusion in our work and personal lives. We strive to ensure that people with disabilities, their loved ones, friends, and connections have access to the resources they need to participate fully in life. Informed by lived experiences and welcoming allies, we are committed to improving accessibility, reducing barriers, and advocating for equity and inclusivity. This work enhances the culture of the Foundation for all staff and stakeholders. One of our key goals is to increase awareness among our colleagues about ableism in the workplace and beyond, identifying challenges and creating solutions that advance accessibility. 💫
As we reflect on how to be better allies, one resource that has profoundly impacted our organization is the book Demystifying Disability: What to Know, What to Say, and How to Be an Ally by Emily Ladau.

Let's continue to learn, grow, and advocate for a more inclusive world! 📢
