Oakland, California—Leadership Public Schools (LPS) proudly appoints Rosa Chavarria as the Interim Principal of LPS Richmond, effective immediately. Rosa Chavarria is a strong educational leader who will ensure a smooth transition and continuity for the LPS Richmond community. Rosa Chavarria will serve as the Interim Principal for LPS Richmond for the 2024-2025 school year. Since joining LPS in 2019, first at the Home Office focusing on our English learner student population, she has demonstrated the ability to foster strong relationships, prioritize students, and advance the LPS vision and mission on behalf of students, staff, parents/guardians, and our educational partners. Enjoyed offering a free session on Family Partnerships this week to team of local educators. Here is some of the testimony from the session: Appreciated that It was very centered on family worth and inherent value to school culture I appreciate how he made everyone feel comfortable sharing our experiences and opinions and listening to what we had to say I appreciate how you are reflective about the diversity of experiences in your audience, and include visual of indigenous and African ancestors in your slide deck. Last week, I collaborated with the dedicated teachers from Leadership Public Schools - Hayward, LPS Oakland R & D Campus, and Leadership Public Schools: Richmond, as well as with other committed LPS leaders at our annual LPS Curriculum Institute. The institute is a cornerstone of Leadership Public Schools and focuses on community building and reflection to improve achievement outcomes for all LPS students. Over three days, LPS staff unpacked and analyzed CA student performance data to focus on 'Big Picture' course planning for the 24–25 school year in areas such as scope and sequence, common assessments, reflecting on data from last year's instruction, backward planning, and vertical alignment. I sincerely appreciate that LPS staff engage in the 'cycle of inquiry' and 'continuous improvement' practices to foster student academic achievement and growth for all students. Construction is ongoing at LPS Hayward! The Royal Chickens have been temporarily moved until their new home is built, the demolition of old wings has occurred, and construction is going on schedule. We look forward to seeing the new school site with our new building and open space. Despite any changes, we look forward to maintaining our small community feel in our upgraded setting. On the evening of Friday, June 14, 2024, I finished my week by attending the Leadership Public Schools - Hayward Class of 2024 graduation ceremony at the California State University - East Bay Amphitheater. LPS Hayward graduates will attend the University of California Schools, California State University Schools, California Community Colleges, Private Universities, and other institutions or take their next journey in other post-secondary pursuits. On a special note, the graduation ceremony included a 'Rose Ceremony' to allow our graduates to bestow their loved ones in attendance with a rose to honor them for their ongoing support. Congratulations to the LPS Hayward Class of 2024! Attending the LPS Hayward graduation ceremony was a fantastic end to my work week. On the afternoon of June 14, 2024, I attended the LPS Oakland R & D Campus graduation ceremony at Northeastern University - Oakland held in the Littlefield Concert Hall. It was a joy to witness the excitement of the LPS Oakland R&D students, which was truly inspiring. The graduates from LPS Oakland R&D will attend various institutions such as the University of California Schools, California State University Schools, California Community Colleges, Private Universities, other Universities/Colleges, or Trade Schools. This fall, the student graduation speakers, the valedictorian and the salutatorian, will attend the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California, Davis, respectively. Congratulations to every LPS Oakland R&D Campus graduate! I wish each of you the best in your post-secondary journey. I also thank the LPS Oakland R&D campus families, staff, and community members for their support.
