It feels good to know that not one, not two, not three, but four members of Humans in Healthcare have successfully pivoted into their next role with direct support from other members. From tailoring and sharing jobs through my curated job board to members making connections for each other to seekers asking questions through the process and finding support and guidance from those who have been through it -- it's all here in one space. But that's not the part I love most. The part I love most is that you can still show up and find support in this space even after you pivot -- because getting the job is just one part and often not even the hardest one. Everyone needs a support system during and after a job transition especially clinicians into nontraditional roles. It's why this space exists. People a few steps behind you. People in step with you. People a few steps ahead of you. Really creates the ethos of us all being in it together. 💜

A dynamic and innovative approach for the Modern Cardiology Practice | We Accelerate Time to Diagnosis from Days to Minutes

For over two decades, I have led a cardiac diagnostic company focused on adult heart health, utilizing early detection tools that, while diagnostic, are not directly life-saving. Throughout my career, I've witnessed a troubling scenario unfold repeatedly on sports fields across the country—young athletes, full of potential and vigor, suddenly collapsing from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). These incidents strike families and communities with devastating suddenness, and all too often, these young individuals do not receive the same level of attention as high-profile athletes, unless they are at the level of prominence like Bronny James. This stark reality inspired the creation of DMV Has a Heart (DC,Maryland & Virginia) https://dmvhasaheart.org/. Our mission is to bring awareness to parents, coaches, and community leaders about the critical need for early detection of potential heart issues in children. Unlike other regions, this proactive approach is not widely addressed in the DMV area, leaving a gaping hole in our preventive healthcare measures. Our initiative focuses on inviting young athletes from schools and local communities to participate in screenings that are not only advanced but accessible. We have been fortunate to collaborate closely with our manufacturer Cardiac Insight, Inc., leveraging a proprietary algorithm specifically designed to distinguish an athletic heart from a normal functioning heart. This rapid technology, which has proven its worth in adult screenings, is now something we believe is crucial to introduce to schools and community centers. By bringing this technology in partnership with Who We Play For into everyday settings where young people gather, play, and learn, we aim to protect these young hearts on the field and off. DMV Has a Heart is not just a medical initiative; it's a community safeguard, a parent's reassurance, and most of all, a child's lifeline. It’s a deeply personal mission for me, driven by years of witnessing what could have been prevented—and what we now have the power to stop before tragedy strikes. In the latest episode of my podcast, Pulse Check, Amy Story and I discussed how clinicians can use creativity to transform patient experiences and explore passions beyond their clinical practice. Amy has pursued creative endeavors in the past such as theater and started her career as a PA. She now runs Humans in Healthcare, a community for clinicians looking to innovate, create, and connect. Some highlights from this episode: 🎭 How Amy’s theater background taught her valuable skills to better understand and connect with patients 💼 How the disconnection between patient care and system demands lead to burnout 🔎 AND how clinicians can seek new ways to make an impact when the system isn’t allowing them to make the impact they desire 📖 The importance of narrative medicine in providing more personalized and effective care Link is in the comments if you’d like to listen! And if you'd prefer to read over listen, I'll be posting a written version soon. xHealth Studio #healthcare #creativityinhealthcare #narrativemedicine

Shoutout to the Occupational Therapy profession. As a Physician Assistant, I truthfully did not have a great understanding of all that an OT can do. I'm not sure why other than to say -- this is how our healthcare system works. It's siloed for patients and in many ways, it's siloed for the healthcare professionals, too. OTs help people of all ages who have physical, sensory, or cognitive problems and help with barriers that affect a person's emotional, social, and physical needs. They work in many settings including schools, hospitals, mental health facilities, and more. And, in my opinion, they are some of the most holistic minds of the allied health professions. How do I know? There's an amazing group of them in Humans in Healthcare that have shown me. When I needed to talk through some situations I've been navigating with family members, I put out a request to the group and asked if anyone would be willing to listen. And they did. And they helped. And they continue to. Do you know what else OTs are great at? Infusing accessibility into your clinical products by listening to user needs and ensuring it meets their needs in a way that honors their functioning. Because that's what they are trained to do. It would make sense that OTs could use these transferable skills in roles outside of the clinic, too, so don't discount them from non-traditional roles that require active listening and a design element focused on accessibility. And, if you want to join a network full of diverse clinicians eager to make change in creative ways, join Humans in Healthcare. Because healthcare exists in silos, but networks don't have to. Imagine how strong the clinical voice can be, together. Open to anyone in healthcare regardless of credential -- that includes non clinicians who have a vested interest in supporting and amplifying the voice of the clinician or looking to hire or liaise with clinicians. #occupationaltherapy #healthcareprofessionals #healthtech #healthcare

Healthcare exists in silos, but networks don't have to 😉 The next iteration of Humans in Healthcare is here! One of the best parts of the network to date has been learning from the diverse credentials in the room -- from OT's to PTs to PharmDs, RNs, PAs, NPs, MDs, and more. And I thought, well, why not continue to build out the diverse clinical voice and amplify it among those who are supporting clinicians, building things for clinicians, working with clinicians, to continue to help amplify and elevate the voice of the clinicians. I am evolving Humans in Healthcare and launching a premier network to liaise with and access a diverse and holistic care team perspective, open to anyone working in, building on, or hiring in healthcare. This is a simple, smaller, more intimate, and private space to network and make connections -- where you don't have to worry about how many followers you have, likes on your post, what brand you have or how known you are. Where you can show up as the human you are, surrounded by other humans in healthcare, near, and far. Interested? Join below ⬇

I enjoyed getting to share about the amazing clinicians at Augment Therapy who are using their lived experiences and breadth of skills to create deeply needed digital products. Clinicians are uniquely qualified to identify pain points in the system of healthcare as well as function as supplemental advocates of the patient's voice. Augment Therapy’s product ARWell PRO was created from this unique vantage point, through the combination of PT and OT lived experience, clinical research, customer feedback, and product testing. Read more about their efforts! ---- And P.S. --- one of the best parts of Humans in Healthcare to date has been the diverse clinical voice. From OTs and PTs to PharmDs, RNs, NPs, PAs, MDs, and more and I'm opening up the network to anyone working in healthcare who wants to amplify the diverse clinician voice. This is a great place to access a holistic care team perspective. Healthcare exists in silos, but networks don't have to. Join through the link the comments! https://lnkd.in/gyfUnVxE..

Two humans in healthcare who are generous, thoughtful, and on a mission to support clinicians interested in expanding their skill set beyond the clinical realm: Lauren Sheehan and Kylie Cicero, MS, OTR/L of Collective Coaching. Lauren and Kylie share the ethos of Humans in Healthcare -- a supportive community to help ease what can be a lonely and challenging career transition. I highly recommend any PT, OT, or SLP navigating the clinical transition to sign up for their next coaching cohort, starting June 12, 2024. Lauren and Kylie have created a beautifully designed program from their lived experiences navigating this transition. Their insights are both informative and actionable and the empathy infused in the design, structure, and curriculum of the program is palpable. You'll receive support, guidance, and a community of others navigating the transition together. I cannot underscore the importance of having a supportive group that can hold the space, celebrate, and learn together. What I wish I had now exists in Collective Coaching. It can be lonely in the moment, but you are not alone. Sign up through the link in the comments!
