🔊 New career story! LinkedIn has always been a place where I have gained inspiration. I love seeing what other health professionals are doing with their expertise and interests. One of the first people I discovered and have been following for quite a while now who really resonated with me was Canadian nurse and author Sara Fung, MN, BSN, RN. So, I was very excited when Sara graciously said yes to being interviewed for Career Cliniq's weekly story. Sara Fung's career has taken her far from the beeping monitors and tiny patients of the NICU where she started. Today, she's more likely to be found behind a microphone, speaking or crafting resumes than changing dressings or checking vital signs. As I prepared to unpack 15 years of a nurse's career journey, I wondered what series of choices leads someone from the intensity of neonatal care to becoming an entrepreneur, author and podcaster. What inspires a nurse to dedicate herself to helping other nurses navigate their careers, finding fulfilling roles within a profession known for its challenges? 🎤 New career story! Chesney Fowler, MD never imagined she'd be treating patients through a computer screen. Yet here she was, a medical director for a telemedicine company, guiding doctors on how to assess shortness of breath without ever touching a stethoscope to a chest. How did a former emergency department #doctor end up here? And why would she trade the adrenaline rush of the ED for a home office? As we sat down to chat, I was eager to uncover the turning points in Chesney's career - decisions that any #healthprofessional might face but whose outcomes can dramatically reshape a career. Feeling stuck between overqualified and underqualified? You're not alone. Meet Elizabeth Knight, a nurse practitioner with a PhD who found herself at a crossroads. Her story isn't about seamless transitions or overnight success. It's about the messy, uncertain journey of reinvention. "I have a bit of a pastiche of a resume," Elizabeth admits. "It's almost like a little bit of everything adds up to nothing." Elizabeth's career evolution in practice, research, education and health tech workstreams is a raw look at: • The struggle to translate diverse experiences into a cohesive narrative • The courage to step away from traditional paths, even with advanced degrees • The vulnerability of starting over and learning to articulate your unique value It's a reminder that many of us grapple with self-doubt and the pressure to fit into predefined roles. Read Elizabeth's full story here: https://lnkd.in/gizm-bcz Because sometimes, the most fulfilling paths are the ones we forge ourselves. #CareerTransition #CareerCliniq #nurse #ReimaginingSuccess

Your comfort zone may not be as comfortable as you think. Staying in your current role, clinging to familiar responsibilities, and the aspects that might make you feel valuable now, but you know it’s draining you. Remaining in your healthcare lane, avoiding disrupting the cliques around you, and relying on people and the system’s predictable response might seem safe, but deep down, you know change is necessary. Embracing traditional career paths in your profession is celebrated and well supported, yet if you desire growth in a different direction, you are sitting with the ‘what if’ and lost potential of greater fulfilment. Your courage zone is where you need to be. It may feel daunting, requiring a level of bravery you haven't tapped into before. However, it's within this discomfort that you can evolve, leading to a peace that surpasses the illusion of comfort. Are you prepared to explore your courage zone and overcome the barriers holding you back? #CareerCliniq #careergrowth #couragezone #healthcare

What gets you ridiculously excited? In the grind of our personal and professional lives, we can easily be focused on what get's us frustrated or tired or to the end of the day. I'm not talking superficial hype either (I'm allergic to it). For myself professionally, it's when I've uncovered and deconstructed value in another person and they see it too. Personally, it's a well-planned holiday by my husband and I'm in the dark for most of it. Do you have moments of excitement in your job? If not, why not? I think as adults, many of us don't have enough moments of excitement. I do love seeing it on the faces of my kids though. But if you pause for a moment and recall the last time you were genuinely filled with excitement, what stirred that feeling within you? #healthcarecareers #healthcarejobs #CareerCliniq #excitement

Do you need a change but you're too exhausted to figure out a specific goal for your next #health career step? 🌟 Discover the inspiring career story of Dr. Christopher Deussing, DSW, LCSW, C-DBT! 🌟 I recently had the chance to delve deeper into the professional journey of this stand-out mental health advocate, someone many of you already follow and admire. Beyond his professional triumphs, what struck me most about Dr. D was his realness. He's someone who embraces every aspect of his life journey, making no attempts to sugarcoat the challenging times. Imagine having Sunday blues for a solid 8 months. That was me. I had autonomy. I had novelty. I was learning. I was surrounded by amazing colleagues. But every Sunday afternoon, I would get this feeling in my gut; my mood would change and I would dread the week of work starting. It even got to the point of affecting my relationship with my partner. The source was just one manager. One person in a sea of goodness. I was faced with a choice. Do I be honest when they ask me how I am or when they notice my low mood at work? Or do I fake it? I was fearful of being truthful. They had power. Despite the very diplomatic feedback I provided at the 3-month review, the issues continued. I was able to talk about my concerns with my colleagues safely. They all recognised the issues, experienced it themselves but felt powerless to change. Rightly or wrongly, I chose differently. Seven months in, I cleared the air about my discontent, indicating a future departure from the clinic. The reaction was swift and harsh, demanding my immediate resignation with a fortnight's notice. Could I have resisted? Yes. Did I want to? No. Yes, this abrupt end affected my long service leave down the track; but the relief of the lifted weight of the Sunday blues was immeasurable. And I went on to get a job soon after at a workplace that was instrumental to my growth and development. I shouldn't have been put in that position but I have no regrets about my decision to be honest. Have you had a similar experience? How did you handle it? Feel free to share your thoughts below, or just give this a like if you can relate. #healthcare #sundayblues #leadership
