For a better you. For a better community. For a better country. For a better us.®

About us

You know the challenges that we face in the Harrisburg area. People of all ages and backgrounds are struggling to reach their full potential. More and more children face seemingly insurmountable learning gaps. Families find it difficult to spend quality time together. People are not connected to their neighbors and face time happens through a phone. And instead of seeing the income gap shrink, it seems all we do is watch it grow. But when challenges arise, the Y and the community have always worked together to provide solutions.. After over 160 years of serving the Harrisburg community, the Y understands what our community needs to be its best. Working with supporters of all kinds, the Y provides everyone the opportunity to be healthy and thrive, to connect with others, and contribute to a better community. Everything the Y does is in service of making us – as individuals and a community – better.

We'd like to extend the most heartfelt of congratulations to our friend Eric Rothermel for his recent promotion to Vice President of Government Relations at the Harrisburg Area YMCA. Eric – thank you for your limitless dedication to the Y and our community! ----------- Eric began his Y career shortly after graduating from Lock Haven University. Eric served as an intern at the YMCA of the Rockies before moving back to his hometown and diving into his professional career with the Harrisburg Area YMCA. Eric started as a Youth Program Coordinator with the Northern Dauphin County Branch YMCA before discovering his passion for prevention programs and YMCA advocation. Eric has worked with the PA State Alliance of YMCAs, serving on their Government Action Committee and enhancing the relationships that the Y has with local, county, state, and federal government officials. Another dream came true for Eric when he was given the opportunity to serve as the Vice President of Government Relations for the Harrisburg Area YMCA, where he hopes to continue tenaciously advocating for youth and overall community wellness across the state.

Thank you to all of our local “do-gooders” who contributed to another fruitful YMCA Annual Campaign 🍍🌸 We had fun celebrating at our Victory Luau this afternoon with staff and board volunteers, complete with perfect summer weather and beautiful views provided by the Harrisburg Beach Club! Congrats to our staff champions and branch leaders for your accomplishments. #HereForGood ICYMI: the YMCA Annual Campaign is a year-long fundraising effort that provides scholarships and financial aid for anybody in need – we are FOR ALL, and everyone should have access to YMCA programs and services. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this year’s campaign! We are always accepting new donors to join our cause. Learn more today at ymcaharrisburg.org/give 🌟

It’s Founder’s Day! On this date in 1844, George Williams and 11 other young men held a meeting in London that would lead to the founding of the YMCA. For 180 years, the Y has worked to strengthen communities –creating the first group swim classes, spearheading the first English as a Second Language (ESL) class and addressing chronic disease through programs like the Y’s Diabetes Prevention Program. #FoundersDay

Today the Harrisburg Area YMCA had the pleasure of celebrating YMCA Day of Giving! Thank you to all of the generous individuals who donated today and our awesome staff and board team for their hard work and kindess 🙂 #DoGooders Our 5 branches held festivities throughout the day, offering giveaways, raffles, food, and most importantly: education about our Annual Campaign and how we use donations to help our community thrive 🌱 In case you missed out, we hope you’ll consider a donation so we can see our 2024 goal 📈 bit.ly/HBGY-Give

Today is Day of Giving at The YMCA and we wanted to take some time to share a glimpse into what The Center for Healthy Living does for those who might not know. 👤Evidence-Based Health Intervention Programs (EBHI): We offer all of our EBHI's at no cost and also include a membership during a participant's time. We can offer our EBHIs at no cost because wonderful donors pay a participant's way. 🗣️Community Tours: Our team has traveled all over Pennsylvania to spread information on many areas. Here are the current areas we specialize in: 📃 Health Equity Tour (HET): A series of in-person events focused on access to health resources through Pennie and sharing more on our EBHI programs. 💉 Community Action Tour (CAT): We provide affordable health insurance information, giveaways, COVID-19 resources, and health screenings & vaccinations at no cost to those who attend. 🤝 Mitigation Tour (MIT): Our team goes to homeless encampments and congregate living facilities on a statewide tour. Our main goal is to identify COVID-19 cases as soon as possible to prevent large outbreaks among people experiencing homelessness. We also hand out food and resources for those unhoused individuals. 😆 We understand we would not be able to do anything without our gracious donors. Will you help us continue to support our local community members and get them the help they need at no cost? Click on the link to give today! bit.ly/HBGY-Give
