Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville is elated to share that our very own Torin Dobson was awarded the 2024 Outstanding Employee of the Year award at the Habitat for Humanity State Impact Awards! During his 17-year tenure, he has provided his institutional knowledge to a wide variety of roles he has filled. What sets Torin apart is the number of people who seek him out daily for advice on issues both large and small. Over the years, he has supervised the office receptionist, overseen the contract for the copy machines, painted office walls, shoveled and salted the sidewalks in icy conditions, driven the ReStore donation truck, greeted volunteers at the build site, prepared appreciation lunches for our Supervisors on Site, and been a resource for other affiliates, just to name a few of his many contributions. Carrying out these tasks and many others has been in addition to being responsible for his main role, directing IT and managing cross-functional affiliate projects such as facility relocations and buildouts. His role impacts every department at the affiliate, from construction, to homeowner services, to finance, to development, to ReStore, to HR. His impact transcends the framework of the organization.

About us
Seeking to put God's love into action HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF GREATER NASHVILLE brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Habitat family partnerships enable dignity of life for those who choose it and work to achieve it, help to create safer neighborhoods for more children, and facilitate a pathway of hope for those we serve. The success of our mission is ensured through the generous help of our caring community of donors and volunteers who help us Build Better Lives. Since our founding in 1985, Habitat of Greater Nashville has built or recycled more than 850 homes locally for purchase by families and individuals who cannot afford a conventional home loan. Habitat of Greater Nashville has won 11 consecutive ENERGY STAR awards for Excellence in Affordable Housing from the EPA. Dickson, Cheatham, and Wilson counties are part of Greater Nashville's service outreach. Habitat of Greater Nashville offers three ReStore locations, a greatly expanded Nashville location at 414 Harding Place with over 35,000 square feet of inventory space, where new and gently used items are resold to the public to help support the ministry. Your support is needed to help continue this important work in building and renovating homes for hard-working families. HCA Healthcare is proud to team up with Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit housing organization that brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. In HCA Healthcare’s hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, colleagues recently participated in a build experience with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville. During the build, HCA Healthcare volunteers swung hammers, drilled nails and cut wood to facilitate the construction of a new home. The volunteer event was one of eight build experience days HCA Healthcare planned with Habitat for Humanity in Spring 2024. This year, more than 350 HCA Healthcare colleagues have used their time, talent and passion to provide more than 2,400 hours of volunteer support for Habitat for Humanity across the country. Together with Habitat for Humanity, we are working to build stronger communities and healthier tomorrows across the country. The Houses of Hope Gingerbread House campaign offers a unique opportunity to share with friends and colleagues the mission and impact of Habitat for Humanity. Here is how it works: Make a gift to Habitat of Greater Nashville and send us the names of the people to whom you wish to send a Gingerbread House. They could be co-workers, clients, family, or friends. We will prepare a Gingerbread House kit for them with a note that you have made a gift to Habitat in their honor. A gift of $5,000 equals 20 Gingerbread House kits A gift of $2,500 equals 10 Gingerbread House kits A gift of $1,250 equals 5 Gingerbread House kits A gift of $250 equals 1 Gingerbread House kit Please respond to Lauren at: llanepayne@habitatnashville.org by Aug. 30 with your order. Gingerbread Houses will be ready the week of Nov. 18. While you may be thinking it is only July and the Gingerbread Houses are planned for November, the reality is that the baker needs our final count by the end of August. We appreciate your support!

According to Zillow, homebuyers now need a staggering $200K down payment to comfortably afford an average-priced home in Nashville. This eye-opening article delves into the current state of the housing market and the factors driving these costs. I recently spoke at the Wilson County Habitat for Humanity House of Hope luncheon, where I discussed the pressing issue of home affordability. With the median household income in Wilson Co. around $89,500 and the average home value at $485,000, it's clear why many are finding it challenging to afford a home. For a household to have financial success, it's recommended that housing expenses should not exceed 30% of income. This means the recommended housing expense for Wilson County households is around $2,200, which translates to a $250,000 mortgage. Read the full article to learn more about how these trends impact our community and potential homebuyers. https://lnkd.in/e52vdrsB #realestate #wilsoncounty #homebuying #housingmarket #affordablehousing #habitatforhumanity

Did you know… in 1994 beloved artist #RebaMcEntire helped lead a group of #Nashville women in a build for Habitat for Humanity International? McEntire – along with volunteers and committee members joined forces to carry out the project "A Woman's House." This project was a three-bedroom home for a single mother of two and was slated to be fully built within 10 days.
