At Thistle Farms, we use the word 'survivor' instead of ‘victim’ to honor the profound strength and personal agency of individuals who have experienced sexual exploitation. Our language reflects our commitment to supporting each survivor in their journey, while advocating for systemic changes to prevent exploitation and abuse.

A Sweet New Venture for Our Sister for Life 🍦💜 From surviving to thriving and now owning her own business, Chelle Waller's journey is a testament to her dedication to her family and community. As a 2006 graduate of Thistle Farms' residential program, Chelle has always had a knack for seeing the needs and opportunities around her. Reflecting on the changes in East Nashville, she noticed, "There's a lot of gentrification in the area. So much has changed—not all of it bad, but a lot." Chelle saw a sweet opportunity. Combining her love for ice cream and coffee, she opened East Nashville Cream & Bean Ice Cream Coffee Shoppe on December 16th, 2023. Located at 304 Douglas Ave, this cozy spot is perfect for families to come in and enjoy delicious treats. Chelle’s path to entrepreneurship was built on years of hard work. "I have been running and running my whole life.” Her 12 years as an admin at Thistle Farms, followed by her role as the Senior Case Manager with the residential program, helped her spread her wings and fly. "This strengthened my business skills and it all just came together for me." Chelle’s shift from facing challenges to becoming a community solution is truly inspiring. "I do this for my family and the community." When it comes to creating flavors, Chelle finds inspiration in both tradition and the changing seasons. "The Metropolitan with strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate—that's a must-have. Our most popular right now is cherry fudge and cinnamon churro." Over time, her passion has turned her into an ice cream connoisseur, always exploring new flavors to sweeten the lives of her community. One of Chelle's fondest memories of owning her own business is the support from the Thistle Farms community. "When everyone from Thistle Farms' residential came out to support me and pack the house, it was amazing. I looked up and saw a lot of 'me's'." Seeing so many familiar faces who have shared similar journeys filled Chelle with pride and gratitude. Chelle Waller’s message to anyone pursuing their dreams or overcoming challenges is simple: "Don't give up." Chelle’s story is a sweet reminder that love is the most powerful force for change in the world.
