I could not have asked for a better close-off to my final year at GW than to serve as the President of GW Women in Business (GWWIB). From my first exposure to GWWIB my freshman year (special shoutout to Kate Dressel for inviting me to the virtual Spring Conference), to being a part of the SC Logistics committee, VP of Finance, and finally President, I owe it all to the incredible Executive Board for allowing me to thrive through their passion for making a change and dedication to building our community. With a total of seven teams on board, it is a privilege to be able to showcase their achievements, successful partnerships, and events that were executed throughout the year. Earlier this month, GWWIB successfully executed the 15th Annual Spring Conference (SC). “IGNITE,” the first fully in-person conference since 2019, brought together panelists and attendees from across the country, empowering attendees to ignite their passions through keynote speaker Kisha Salters, PMP, CMP, CSPO, two speakers series, nine industry panels, and three workshops. A sincere thank you to everyone who assisted with our Spring Conference. From the directors to committee members, you all played an integral part in the success of the day. The conference was led by Maggie Mahasin and Shayla Gornstein, who oversaw directors, speaker outreach, and communication with various contacts. Jinsil Yearm, Sarah Hajeer, Breah Woo, Emma Zent and Haeun Kim: thank you for serving as the backbone of the conference and flawlessly leading the committees with care and compassion. With over 280 guests in attendance, this was truly an interactive and impactful experience for all. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the GWWIB Advisory Council: Dale Carlson-Bebout, LaJuanna Russell, Marie Loop, Lindsay McNeil, Carolina Medlarz, and Preeti Parulekar. Your involvement, from speaking roles to providing your insightful advice and feedback, made our vision for the day come to life. A special thank you to Shannon Moran Buckhout, our incredible advisor, for extending her fullest support and appreciation. Bringing together professionals and students for the Spring Conference could not have been done without the guidance of Ben Donnelly, the F. David Fowler Career Center, GWSB Undergraduate Programs, Lincoln Mansch, Ocieola Jane Newby, and Aaron Solle. Biggest thank you to Lauren Kieltyka, our one-of-a-kind EVP, for providing all of your support, kindness, dedication, and (most importantly) your homemade chocolate chip cookies. To the graduating GWWIB seniors, I hope you all become proud alumni, staying connected with members and sharing your wisdom. GW Women In Business is hosting their 15th Annual Spring Conference on Saturday, April 6th! With the theme of "IGNITE,” attendees are encouraged to be empowered to ignite their passions through engaging with speakers, panels, and workshops, emphasizing professional and social diversity, self-discovery, and valuable connections. As our first fully in-person conference since 2020, this daylong event will allow attendees to learn from 9 industry-focused panels, 3 fireside chats, 3 personal and career development workshops, and our keynote speaker, Kisha Salters, PMP, CMP, CSPO. On Friday, February 23, GW Women in Business (GWWIB) hosted their 5th annual DC Career Networking Trek event. This year’s DC Trek theme was Lead the Change, Leave Your Mark, and included site visits to Salesforce, KPMG, Bates White Economic Consulting, and HHM Hotels/Hyatt Place.

Exactly one week ago today, I was preparing for what I knew would expand my understanding of how companies in the US operate. I was about to embark on a visit to four different offices: Salesforce, KPMG, Bates White Economic Consulting, and Hyatt Place. I still remember my pen slipping from my hand due to the nervous yet exhilarating feeling as I scribbled down questions for the panelists at Salesforce. I hadn't realized how apparent my nerves were until one of the attendees sitting beside me, Hadassah Olakanpo, asked why I seemed so excited while writing in my notebook. I honestly couldn't provide a straightforward answer to her because I had so many reasons swirling in my mind that I couldn't articulate coherently. For example, when Barbara H., the Senior Manager of Engagement Delivery, delved into topics like CRM, APIs, and other technical abbreviations, I comprehended each one perfectly, hence my nervous excitement. Furthermore, amazed by how Diane Rish, Kim Sembrano, and other panelists, emphasized on the unique and strong supportive workforce environment at Salesforce. A quick shoutout to my current professor for Business Systems Development, Professor Dr. Pape Cisse, PMP, who consistently emphasizes these technical terminologies during lectures. Words cannot adequately express my gratitude for being chosen to represent GW Women In Business as an attendee at the DC Trek event. Not only did I have the opportunity to network with remarkable employees from each company, but I also engaged more with other WIB members (Olivia Stevo, Greta Rodgers, Hayrunnisa Demirgil, Isabella Turipe-Blanchard, Hazel Lee) - bright and supportive women. One of my key takeaways from this experience is the importance of leveraging offered support when needed. I still remember Taylor C., a current employee at the Career Center at GW, other fellow attendees Amina Khan, and Rand Attallah agreeing to designate the fifth floor of "Duquesh" as our meeting spot. This echoed what Kate Dressel, a GWWIB member who interviewed me for the DC Trek, and my mentor, Karen Maldonado, responsible for planning the logistics of the DC Trek event, both highlighted Duques 5th floor at the Business School as their meeting place.
