Community-based organizations (CBOs) need long-term flexible funding in order to advocate effectively for local populations, according to a new resource from Global Fund for Children which also calls upon philanthropy and global development actors to embrace a more equitable approach. Traditional funding models leave grassroots groups with limited access to financing, minimal operational resources, and rigid funding restrictions, hindering their ability to fully address community needs. Despite their unparalleled insight into evolving community needs and complex local systems, many CBOs face persistent deficits which constrain their ability to respond as priorities change or crises emerge.   Offering unrestricted funding to grantee partners recognizes the power of local organizations as advocates with and for their communities, nurtures organizational growth, and builds trust-based relationships between funders and grantee partners so CBOs can thrive, the resource states. Meet Esther! Esther is a human rights activist from Kenya and a member of GFC’s Marketing and Communications team! Esther fiercely advocates for sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and uses her writing in local newspapers and digital platforms to shed light on the challenges faced by young people. Her vision? To power #young people in all their diversity.

Meet Oni! Oni is a dynamic activist from the Philippines and is a member of GFC's Youth Leadership Council! Oni champions #youth participation in politics and civil society movements, with a special focus on creating more opportunities for women and queer people. As an active member of GFC’s Youth Leadership Council (YLC) and various socio-civic organizations, Oni uses her unique perspective to drive change on both national and international levels.

Last night, GFC Global Ambassador, Susan Chardy, hosted a fun and impactful fundraising event in London, aka #WimbyWednesday. This annual gathering unites the tennis community in an effort to make a difference. 🎾✨ We are thrilled that Susan chose Global Fund for Children as this year’s selected charity - thank you for the recognition and support. This kindness will fuel GFC’s work as we continue to power the potential of #children and #young people worldwide.

Congratulations to Global Fund for Children Board member Marijana Savic for being named a Trafficking in Persons Report Hero for 2024. She was honored here in DC by the US State Department on Monday. "Marijana Savic from Serbia – (applause) – in recognition of her acclaimed antitrafficking work in Serbia, relentless push for sustainable policy solutions, insistence on the provision of victim-centered approaches, prioritization of vulnerable survivors, and innovative work promoting long-term economic integration for survivors to prevent revictimization. (Applause.)" Applause indeed!
