Finally, in our series exploring how CSOs and #INGOs are faring in work to #ShiftThePower on the #RoadFromBogotá we spoke with Kate Newman of INTRAC about their new strategic approach. "We also want to actively contribute in supporting, encouraging and holding INGOs accountable on the ‘how’ they practice power shifts – moving from the words to action." https://lnkd.in/envH3gED

What did we learn from the #ShiftThePower Global Summit about how INGOs are faring as they seek to decolonize their practices? Charlotte Timson (formerly Transform Trade & current Vice-Chair of Bond UK) shares her views: “Among INGOs, I feel there’s a bit of a divide now. Some organizations are going to try to transform, particularly the smaller ones...I think this is less the case with the major INGOs. But I wonder how sustainable the sector is currently." #RoadFromBogotá https://lnkd.in/eMRi-_RE

Now turning to how #INGOs are faring on the #RoadFromBogotá - we spoke with Kate Moger, Global Director of the Pledge for Change at Adeso. “My sense from speaking to INGO colleagues is that they don’t see themselves as part of the #ShiftThePower movement. They see themselves as a target of advocacy, but they don’t see the movement as being their home. This is symptomatic of a broader malaise in the INGO sector..." https://lnkd.in/eMD9bCQe

Up next in our series on how CSOs can #ShiftThePower on the #RoadFromBogotá we hear from Rotimi Olawale of YouthhubAfrica. He advocates for stronger collaboration & building a collective voice amongst local organizations: “CSOs are forced to compete against each other, which is not the kind of system that African societies are used to.” https://lnkd.in/e99B3Nzj

This week we'll be sharing perspectives from CSOs & INGOs on how they're faring in work to #ShiftThePower on the #RoadFromBogotá. Up first is Mr Jonathan Kifunda of Thubutu Africa Initiatives who suggests CSOs need to find better ways to engage with donors - and reflects on the (important) difference between "warm" and "cold" money. https://lnkd.in/ej9cGhpQ

In 2023, CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation Monitor rated Brazil’s civil society as “obstructed” and the country is still going through its own democratic journey of change. To understand what's happening, we caught up with Comuá Network's Graciela Hopstein and Jonathas Azevedo to talk about Brazil's democratic journey, how civil society is using community philanthropy to respond to local issues and why its important to expand our thinking of democracy as access to rights, and not just voting https://lnkd.in/gCh_AwMZ #ShiftThePower #GivingForChange #Rights #Democracy #CommunityPhilanthropy

We stand in solidarity with the Dalan Fund, Taso Foundation, Women's Fund in Georgia and others who are resisting the proposed foreign agents' law in Georgia. Not a single-country issue, this would directly affect activists and social justice organizations across the CEECCNA region. “What’s the point of the revolution if we can’t dance?" In this piece, Jane Austria-Young talks about why burn-out is not an isolated issue but one that affects many across social movements and why we must turn to collective care and regenerative activism as a commitment to care for each other, and to keeping the fire burning without burning ourselves out. https://lnkd.in/dH9GxT5G #ShiftThePower #CollectiveCare

"All my professional life, I have always had a problem with the M&E system, and how we measure people in numbers. Using numbers to fit into donor agendas, expectations, log frames, and all kinds of other insensitive measurements... I always felt like there was something odd about how we measured success but I did not have the language for it back then... If we want the people to be resilient, how can we build a vision of evaluation based on well-being? How can we measure resilience? How can we measure happiness? How can we measure some of these really extraordinary indicators?" In this article, Samar Awaad provokes us to build a vision of M&E based on well-being, happiness, resilience with other amazing and extraordinary indicators https://lnkd.in/dVM8HhQV #ShiftThePower #MeasurementIsPolitical #MeasuringWhatMatters

How many hours (days? weeks?) have you spent responding to calls for proposals from Northern donors, only to be turned down? The #TooSouthernToBeFunded report lifts the veil on funding from #OECD DAC members, detailing the formal and informal ways in which Global South organizations are prevented from ever qualifying. In this blog, the GFCF's Eshban Kwesiga comments: "Thinking back at the countless hours I spent writing proposals, what stings me now is not that those proposals were not successful. It is the façade that I stood a chance." #ShiftThePower https://lnkd.in/e4KmQdk5
