Proud to share that the Sepulveda Basin Vision Plan is complete! This past week the plan was released by the Mayor's Office, Councilmember Imelda Padilla of CD6, and Senator Henry Stern alongside LA BOE's Deborah Weintraub, LA RAP's Jimmy Kim, and the MRCA and SMMC who have led the process with their dedicated teams. The engagement process brought together hundreds of organizations and agencies alongside thousands of community members to imagine a climate resilient future for the basin and San Fernando Valley. OLIN led the design for the Vision Plan under Geosyntec Consultants. Other team members include Agency Artifact, The Robert Group, Inc., Psomas, Gruen Associates, Alta Planning + Design, Estolano Advisors, Pacoima Beautiful, and Leland Saylor Associates! Really thrilled to have led this project with Mark Hanna, PhD, PE(CA), LEED AP from Geosyntec and to work alongside some great friends that care about equity, health, and the environment including Chris Torres, RLA, Emily Marshall Duchon, Sarah Swanseen, RLA, ASLA, AICP, Nate Wooten, Chi-tsai Liu, Jonathan Franklin, Kaylin Boeckman, and so many others!! Estolano Advisors staff have been working in partnership with Participatory Budgeting Project and Diana Zuniga (Tres Lunas) to assist the LA City Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department (CHRED) in implementing and evaluating LA REPAIR, the City's pilot #ParticipatoryBudgeting program. On June 7, 2024, EA staff joined CHRED, community members, and program partners to celebrate the hard work that made the LA REPAIR program possible at a luncheon held in the Tom Bradley Room of LA City Hall. Capri Maddox, LA City CHRED’s General Manager/Executive Director, emphasized the people-centered impact of the LA REPAIR program and honored the advisory committee and community engagement partners in each REPAIR Zone with certificates for their hard work. The luncheon also featured remarks from CD9 Councilmember Curren D. Price, an initial and continuous supporter of the program, and Michael Cusack, Director of Technical Assistance at the Participatory Budgeting Project. We're proud to be a part of this historic $8.5 million investment in Los Angeles communities. Visit the LA REPAIR website for more information on the program and for upcoming voting results: https://repair.lacity.gov/

A big congratulations to allies and frequent partners Nature For All, ActiveSGV, API Forward, and Day One on their recent victory! The Nature For All coalition and other allies succeeded in calling on President Biden to expand the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. This expansion is the next step in a 20-year, locally-driven vision to permanently protect the San Gabriel Mountains and honors the original stewards of the land, ensures equitable access to nature, conserves habitats and biodiversity, and combats the impacts of climate change.  #environmentaljustice #environmentalprotection #stewardship #LosAngeles

Executive Director with Nature for All

On behalf of Nature For All and the Coalition, I was honored to witness President Biden expand the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument today! This action advances a 20-plus year vision to protect the “lungs of Los Angeles County” our local San Gabriel Mountains! During a time when climate change is impacting our communities, our health and our biodiversity, the administration expressed its commitment to environmental justice for Angelenos. The San Gabriel Mountains are 70% of our open space in Los Angeles! The continued protection and addition to the national monument will help ensure more equitable access to nature, help improve public and mental health, help address the climate and biodiversity crisis, and safeguard clean air and water for Angelenos! Protected today: Switzer and Millard Falls, Trail and Eaton Canyon Falls, Big Tujunga Canyon, Condor Peak, Chantry Flat, and many other popular areas within the expansion area! Thank you President Biden, Vice President Harris, Senator Alex Padilla, Congresswoman Judy Chu, and USDA Secretary Vilsack for making this a reality, and investing in the future of our local Angeles National Forest- USDA Forest Service! This expansion could not be possible without the strong collaboration of coalition members, community members, tribal and local elected leaders, as well as volunteer groups with boots on the ground, investments from philanthropic, business, and government partners! The White House Announcement: https://lnkd.in/gxtsV9ze #sangabrielmountainsforever #lanatureforall #LosAngeles #California #Comunidad #30x30 #EnvironmentalJustice #EnvironmentalStewardship #RecreateResponsibly Coalition members and long term partners: ActiveSGV, Amigos De Los Rios, API Forward Movement, CalWild, COFEM, DayOne, Outward Bound Adventures (OBA), NPCA, Sierra Club, The Wilderness Society, WESTERN CONSERVATION FOUNDATION, Resources Legacy Fund, Latino Outdoors, Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians, Gabrieleno Band of Mission Indians and lineal descendants of the San Gabriel Mountains, County of Los Angeles, Department of Parks and Recreation, California Natural Resources Agency , GreenLatinos, Hispanic Access Foundation and many many more!
