At the #EMPower Europe Conference 2024, we had the pleasure of having Klemens Kaar as on of our speakers. In this short video, he discusses with Dr. Thomas Hillig the innovative CAES solutions by Corre Energy, which are a promising alternative to pumped hydro storage. CAES offers similar benefits to pumped hydro storage but does not require mountains; instead, it uses salt caverns, which are abundant in the lowlands of northern Germany and the Netherlands. This geographical distribution makes CAES an ideal complement to energy infrastructure in regions without mountainous landscapes. ☀️REN21 Launches Third Part of the Renewables 2024 Global Status Report at #TheSmarterE Europe 2024 in Munich! ⚡ At the opening of The smarter E Europe 2024, Rana Adib, Executive Director of REN21, delivered a powerful keynote emphasizing the urgency and feasibility of accelerating the energy transition to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲: ⚡Record-Breaking Investments and Capacity Additions: 👉Global installed renewable electricity generation capacity surged to 4,034 GW, with a remarkable 54% increase over 2022. 👉Photovoltaics led the charge with 407 GW, followed by wind power at 117 GW. 👉China doubled its capacity additions, while Europe saw an 11% increase in renewable deployments. 👉A record $623 billion was invested in renewable energy worldwide in 2023. 📈 Rapid Growth in Battery Storage: 👉Investment in battery storage soared to $36.3 billion, marking a 77% increase from 2022. 👉Utility-scale battery storage capacity rose by 65% to 29.2 GW. 🔥 Challenges in Heating and Transport: 👉Despite advancements, fossil fuels still receive significant subsidies, and their consumption has increased. 👉Little progress has been made in the heating sector and fuels, which together account for 77% of global energy use. ⚡ Infrastructure Bottlenecks: 👉Power grid projects totaling 1,500 GW are stalled due to permitting and access issues. 👉To meet 2030 targets, $4,800 billion investment in power grids is needed. Adib's message is clear: The technology and industry are ready – it's time for deployment and acceleration. Governments must create stable conditions for investments and better integrate power supply and demand with smart grids and storage. To meet COP28 goals, we need to double our annual investments to $1,300 billion and new installations to 996 GW. The path forward lies in bold political action and global collaboration. AI-supported algorithms are used to counteract over-intensive battery use, which causes premature aging. CyberGrid GmbH has developed CyberNoc, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution designed to market flexible assets in a variety of markets. The first step involves analyzing the flexibility currently available from technologies such as battery storage systems, PV installations and electric vehicles, based on real-time data, in order to calculate a forecast in the next step, which forms the basis for fully automated trading on the various energy and power markets, such as the European operating reserve platform PICASSO. With the SaaS solution, CyberNoc is an easy-to-parameterize platform for managing extensive energy portfolios. https://lnkd.in/dsJjaBFZ dvlp.energy For large-scale renewable energy projects such as ground-mounted PV systems or large-scale storage systems, the question of whether a potential site is suitable arises early in the planning stage. The dvlp.energy tool from the Berlin-based start-up of the same name is an online tool for supporting complex planning tasks. Dvlp.energy taps into a wide variety of data sources and makes them available as data layers in the cloud-based software. These sources could be, for example, the respective grid operator or the land registry office. AI processes are used to generate new data layers from publicly available sources, such as the core energy market data register, which evaluate the possibility of a grid connection, for example.
