In recent years, fertility tech has exploded in popularity, so much so that financing fertility treatments have become a sizeable vertical on their own. Many people know that fertility treatment are expensive. A single IVF cycle can cost $30,000 and have an average success rate between 38% and 49%. Most people will need to undergo 2-3 rounds before being successful. It is less well-known that male infertility plays a role in almost 50% of cases in which couples struggle with conception. This week is #nationalinfertilityawarenessweek, so Distributed Ventures wanted to share some important insights related to the infertility care journey.    - There are over 36,000 OB-GYNs in the United States. - There are fewer than 200 Reproductive Urologists who specialize in male fertility.  - 1 in 6 couples have trouble getting pregnant and >50% of the time there is a male factor involved. - 42% of adults have used fertility treatments or personally know someone who has, compared to just 33% five years ago.    Fertility treatment is an essential part of healthcare, and more couples are demanding access to care.  At the same time, the burden of care falls disproportionally on the woman. We believe the future of reproductive care includes the male partner.   Involving the male early represents a transformational change in reproductive care. Our portfolio company Posterity Health is leading this change as a virtual Center for Excellence. To support their goal of creating end-to-end male care, they have just launched the new Hormone Management Program aimed at supporting male hormonal health.   As Co-Founder and CEO Pam Pure said, “Just as all women are treated by physicians with specialized gynecologic training and expertise, we believe men deserve treatment from male fertility specialists. Today we are thrilled to share that our portfolio company, Tuned; the first preventive and comprehensive hearing benefit provider has secured a $3.2M seed extension led by employee benefits leader, Unum with participation from our firm. This brings their total funds raised to $8.2M. With 50 million Americans experiencing hearing issues, and 60% of those are within the current workforce, this has created a massive cost burden on employers with hearing loss costing up to $9,100 per person annually. These statistics show a major gap in the #employeebenefits arena where Tuned provides the leading solution. Tuned is the only #telehealth platform that supports hearing care across the entire continuum from prevention to intervention. Today, Tuned’s platform is available to more than 1.4 million people. With this additional funding, the team at Tuned will be focused on scaling their commercial team and audiologist roster to support more employers and the development of new offerings.
