This week is #nationalinfertilityawarenessweek, so Distributed Ventures wanted to share some important insights related to the infertility care journey. - There are over 36,000 OB-GYNs in the United States. - There are fewer than 200 Reproductive Urologists who specialize in male fertility. - 1 in 6 couples have trouble getting pregnant and >50% of the time there is a male factor involved. - 42% of adults have used fertility treatments or personally know someone who has, compared to just 33% five years ago. Fertility treatment is an essential part of healthcare, and more couples are demanding access to care. At the same time, the burden of care falls disproportionally on the woman. We believe the future of reproductive care includes the male partner. Involving the male early represents a transformational change in reproductive care. Our portfolio company Posterity Health is leading this change as a virtual Center for Excellence. To support their goal of creating end-to-end male care, they have just launched the new Hormone Management Program aimed at supporting male hormonal health. As Co-Founder and CEO Pam Pure said, “Just as all women are treated by physicians with specialized gynecologic training and expertise, we believe men deserve treatment from male fertility specialists. We offer male fertility expertise through a combination of virtual visits, at home diagnostics, and in-person consults to make our patients feel as comfortable as possible through their journey. Our goal is to eliminate the stigma associated with male infertility and provide men with a place they feel confident in for advice, coaching and recommended treatment.” We’re so proud to support Posterity Health’s mission in balancing the care journey for households on their fertility journey! We'd love to hear thoughts from you on this topic. #niaw #fertility #startup #healthtech #benefits

📢📢📢 Huge shoutout to Pamela Pure, Barrett Cowan, MD and the entire team at Posterity Health for the vital work they’re doing to improve couples’ fertility journeys 🍼🍼🍼 and improve standard of care. 👩⚕️📈 Many employers recognize the importance of fertility offerings in their benefits package. Yet often women bear a disproportionate burden of the infertility journey when male infertility factors aren’t considered. Male partners can and should be considered as part of the standard of care in the fertility journey for so many reasons … couples experience improved outcomes faster, go through less emotional hardship, and incur less expense. APPEAL TO EMPLOYERS AND BENEFITS CONSULANTS - PLEASE CONSIDER AMMENDING PLAN DESIGN TO INCORPORATE MALE CARE AS A PRE-AUTH FOR EMPLOYER-SPONSORED IVF CYCLES. Employees will thank you and you’ll save money. 🤑

🌟 Demystifying Fertility: Understanding and Overcoming Common Challenges 🌟 As a gynaecologist with a passion for women's health, I am thrilled to shed light on a topic that impacts the lives of many couples around the world: fertility. Today, we embark on a journey to demystify the complexities surrounding fertility and explore ways to overcome common challenges that individuals may face in their quest to start a family. 💡 Understanding Fertility: Fertility is a natural and miraculous aspect of human life, but it can sometimes be elusive. Understanding the factors that influence fertility is crucial in empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their reproductive health. 🚩 Common Challenges and Their Solutions: Age-related concerns: Advancing age can impact fertility, making it essential for couples to consider family planning early on. Fertility preservation techniques and assisted reproductive technologies (ART) offer promising solutions for those facing age-related challenges. Hormonal imbalances: Hormonal irregularities can disrupt ovulation and affect reproductive health. Consulting with a qualified specialist to identify and address hormonal imbalances is crucial in overcoming these hurdles. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): A prevalent condition among women, PCOS can hinder ovulation and conception. With a combination of lifestyle modifications and personalized treatment plans, managing PCOS becomes attainable. Male factor infertility: It's essential to recognize that fertility challenges aren't exclusive to women. Male factor infertility contributes significantly to the equation. Thorough evaluations and advancements in male fertility treatments can offer viable solutions. Unexplained infertility: In some cases, couples face challenges without an identifiable cause. Emotional support, coupled with assisted reproductive techniques, can provide hope and options for couples navigating unexplained infertility. ✨ Empowering Choices: Demystifying fertility involves empowering individuals with knowledge and promoting open conversations. As a gynaecologist, I am committed to supporting my patients through personalized care, evidence-based treatments, and compassionate guidance. 🤝 Let's Break the Stigma: It is crucial to dispel the stigma surrounding fertility struggles. Together, as a community, we can foster an environment of support and empathy for individuals and couples facing these challenges. 🌱 Hope Springs Eternal: Every individual's fertility journey is unique, and hope springs eternal for those navigating the path to parenthood. By seeking professional advice, understanding the challenges, and embracing innovative solutions, we can strive to overcome fertility obstacles and fulfill our dreams of starting a family. #Fertility #ReproductiveHealth #ParenthoodJourney #WomenHealth #Gynaecology #FamilyPlanning #Empowerment

Discovering that you may need fertility treatment to achieve your dream of starting, or adding to your family; can be overwhelming to process. On top of that, coming to terms with the finance requirements for a treatment pathway you are offered, can add a massive financial burden that you also need to consider on top of those emotional and physical considerations, and it is for this reason that most often, many couples unfortunately seek to delay their treatment. I know that couples may find it challenging to self-fund fertility treatment due to the high cost associated with IVF and other assisted conception or fertility preservation services offered to them, all of which can be a daunting consideration to process. I realise that fertility treatments can be prohibitive as a single outlay payment and this often dissuades couples and single women from pursuing their chosen fertility pathway. I have always been passionate about making fertility treatment accessible to all and I am so pleased to inform you that here at IVF Matters, we can now offer our patients the option to pay for their treatments in installments with payment plans running up to 5 years, breaking down the single funding outlay into a far more manageable payment schedule for our patients. What’s more – by providing this option, you can now choose to start your treatment pathway with us, right away, so that you don’t have to further delay the realisation of your dreams. https://lnkd.in/enDY-uG3 #fertilitytreatment #ivflottery #ivfpostcodelottery #fertilityfunding #fertilityfinance #fertilitytreatment #fertilityclinic #fertilitypathway #ivfclinic #onlinefertilityclinic #fertilityspecialists #familyplanning #fertilitysupport #ttcjourney #ttccommunity #secondopinion #secondaryinfertility #miscarriagesupport #fertilitylondon

Fertility Physician/Gyne Sonologist (Cert.Nig)/A Rotarian (Rotary Club Of New Lagos, District 9110/ Mental health Advocate
Oftentimes, a patient gets upset when a doctor asks them if they smoke or not, during Fertility consultations.☺️ I will be sharing more details as to why those questions need to be asked as well as enlightening us on how smoking affects the chances of pregnancy. It's going to be a long read but you are going to love it. Smoking affects both the male and female reproductive system. I'll also be sharing some relevant examples from my practice for more understanding. A 28-year-old woman with a history of 5 years of smoking shisha and a little bit of Indian hemp occasionally, was booked for a consultation on account of inability to sustain pregnancy till term. She has had 2 ectopic pregnancies and could not be able to conceive afterward. After adequate management which includes cessation of smoking and adhering to other lifestyle modifications, she got pregnant and soon to deliver. We all know by now that smoking has been linked to a variety of health problems like respiratory disease, and lung and throat cancer. It also affects the reproductive aspect of the woman. Research has shown that 60% of women who smoke are more likely to struggle with infertility than non-smokers. Aside from causing ectopic pregnancy, smoking has been found to disrupt the female reproductive hormones responsible for egg(follicle) maturation. This can further reduce the number of mature eggs that can be fertilized. Women who smoke tend to enter menopause earlier than their non-smoking counterparts. The moral lesson here is to quit smoking and some other social vices that could pose a threat to the reproductive system. If you are struggling with this, it's high time to seek a consultation with a fertility physician and start working towards a healthy reproductive lifestyle. I would be back for the MEN 😁 because it also affects the quality of sperm and its parameters.
