CoverCress Inc. (CCI) is a proud member of the Integrated Pennycress Research Enabling Farm & Energy Resilience Project (IPREFER) alongside academic partners from Western Illinois University (WIU), Illinois State University, and University of Minnesota. The project is led by Win Phippen of WIU and each year he and his team host the IPREFER annual field day to showcase the progress in transforming field pennycress into a cash crop. On the heels of CoverCress Inc.'s two recent recognitions from TIME and Bloomberg, a few of #TeamBayer were fortunate to spend a little time at the CoverCress office earlier this month. Inclement weather made a planned visit to a CoverCress field trial impossible this time around, which is something many farmers in the Midwestern U.S. are unfortunately familiar with at the moment. We made up for it with an updated look at progress where all research starts: in the labs. In this case, we explored where the CoverCress team is developing this game-changing cover crop, and together toured the new on-site seed processing facility. This team continues to work hard to further characterize, document, and conduct trials on this win/win/win of a crop that will help sequester carbon in the soil during an otherwise fallow season, support the production of sustainable aviation fuel, and provide farmers with another source of revenue on their farms. #SustainableAviationFuel #AgTech #AgInnovation
