Meet Ms. Guerda, a preschool teacher at CORE’s School of Hope and Sunshine. She has been teaching for over a decade and shared that she enjoys teaching young children because she likes to shape their young minds and help them learn how to become responsible citizens. She says that teaching has chosen her, not the other way around. “I feel responsible for the children and youth in Haiti and their futures...the children in Haiti have very limited means.” To learn more and support our programs in Haiti, visit coreresponse.org/haiti #haiti #coreresponse #teacher

In Stebnyk, a town in western Ukraine, CORE has collaborated with our partners to construct a new playground for the local children. Many of these kids live in nearby apartment buildings that CORE recently renovated, giving over thirty internally displaced families a place to call home. Local resident, Yevheniia, said, “Thanks to CORE, our children can spend their free time in the comfort of their own backyard.” CORE’s local team is hopeful that the new playground will give them a place to be free and have fun, leading to a better future, hopefully in a time without war. A huge thank you to our partners and volunteers responding to the floods in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Together, they assembled cleaning kits and distributed them to 52 households in Canoas, a city in the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre. These families were severely affected by the floods, which destroyed their homes and belongings. The cleaning kits are essential for removing mud and debris, allowing them to return home. We are so grateful to our partners and volunteers, whose continuous support is helping flood-impacted people to rebuild their lives. To support flood victims in Brazil, visit https://lnkd.in/gJ2-CuuB Thanks to the generosity of Frank Giustra and the Giustra International Foundation, all donations directed towards Brazil (up to $100,000) will have double the impact for displaced families. #brazil #riograndedosul #coreresponse #brazilfloods

In advance of Hurricane Beryl making landfall in Jamaica as a potentially devastating Category 3 storm, CORE has rapidly deployed vital supplies including tarps to secure damaged homes. A 40ft container of relief supplies is currently being unloaded by the US Navy in anticipation of the storm. CORE is continuing to monitor needs and will mobilize a team to the island as soon as it’s safe to do so. CORE's impact was highlighted extensively in Global Heroes, featuring our work from Haiti to Kentucky. Our CEO, Ann Lee shares, "Since CORE’s inception after the 2010 Haiti earthquake, our approach has been to provide critical humanitarian relief for communities who need it most by listening, learning and taking action. A willingness to take calculated risks and to constantly adapt has fueled our growth as an organization and allows us to remain nimble to respond to urgent needs around the globe." CORE began working in Haiti in 2010 in response to the earthquake that devastated the nation. Since then, we have been running community building programs to build back a stronger Haiti while responding to emerging crises over the years. As Haiti today grapples with civil unrest, CORE is providing vital services throughout the country. Currently, over 5.5 million people need immediate humanitarian assistance as basic necessities including food, health care, and clean drinking water are increasingly difficult to access. In coordination with our partners World Central Kitchen and Acceso, we have distributed over 1,500 food kits to displaced households. Each food kit provides three meals a day for an entire month for a household of five and contains staple ingredients such as rice, cooking oil, peanut butter, beans and canned salmon. CORE and our partners are locally procuring all materials to ensure we support the Haitian economy during this critical time. To support our ongoing efforts in Haiti, visit coreresponse.org/haiti/

Haiti-based CORE staffer, Garry was interviewed by The New Humanitarian to discuss humanitarian operations and security, as Kenyan police began their deployment to the country Tuesday this week.“ There are people in Haiti who live day by day. If they can't go out to pursue their activities, they immediately become food insecure," Garry shared. Read the entire article here: https://lnkd.in/gb28ePqu
