University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus has received $2 million from the Céline Dion Foundation to advance research on autoimmune neurologic disorders. Rare diseases, often overlooked and underfunded, impact millions of lives, making this research even more critical. The urgent need for more research into a rare disease that paused Céline Dion’s career is a key focus in a new documentary about the music superstar’s painful journey - thanks to the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and a new philanthropic gift, this journey has now taken a turn toward a very bright future. "I Am: Céline Dion" documents the singer’s battle with the debilitating neurological disease known as stiff person syndrome (SPS). Amanda Piquet, MD, FAAN, Associate Professor of Neurology and Director of the Autoimmune Neurology Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, along with her team, is working tirelessly with Dion to combat this rare, chronic, and progressive disease, which currently has no cure. Amy Berenbaum Goodman, JD, MBE, CBSA Vice President and Counsel for Policy + Advocacy, is a strong advocate for Colorado’s life sciences community, providing leadership and keeping our community informed about the actions of Colorado’s Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB). At recent PDAB meetings, the Board deemed two more drugs, Stelara and Cosentyx, “unaffordable” for Colorado consumers. The Board will finalize the Affordability Review Reports for Stelara and Cosentyx in early July and will vote on whether to move forward with the upper payment limit (UPL) rulemaking process for those two drugs. Amy also provides her expertise on state government efforts to cap prices on medicines to audiences around the country. - Amy recently participated in an expert roundtable on “The Risks of PDABs and Importance of Innovation for Healthy Aging and Health Equity” organized by the Global Coalition on Aging’s Alliance for Health Innovation. - Amy recently served as a panelist in a webinar on “Understanding the State Prescription Drug Affordability Board Landscape in 2024” hosted by MichBio and the Michigan Bioscience Legislative Caucus. CBSA is proud to contribute to these critical conversations and remains committed to advancing discussions that promote patient access and foster innovation in life sciences. #CoBioScience #StrongerTogether #InnovationForward #BuildingMomentum #ForgingLifeSciencesFrontier
