Very interesting article in the The Washington Post on a glut of lab space in Boston. There are, of course, global financial drivers at play but is also shows how vital the right incentives framework there is for innovation. Without a driver for innovative medicines, you lose the impetuous throughout the development chain. Venture capital goes where it knows it can make a return. No return, no investment. No investment, no growing start ups and the multiple layers of industry that serve them. And the ultimate losers are patients as there is less in the pipeline, especially in rare or complex diseases that need an extra push to make them an investment target. EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries Lab spaces boomed during the pandemic. Then the experiment took a turn. https://lnkd.in/ev2UXmfR

Did you know this about the Upstate? Pretty cool. The U.S. Economic Development Administration announced that the Upstate of South Carolina was named as one of the 31 federally designated tech hubs as part of the Tech Hubs Program which is aimed to at transforming high-potential regions of the country into globally competitive innovation centers. Will this push demand for office space as the Upstate's tech industry continues to grow? https://lnkd.in/eKb8vV8u
