People in Chicago have driven down Ida B. Wells many times on their way in/out of the Loop. Do you know anything about the woman it was named after? No? Well, today is your lucky day! In honor of #blackhistorymonth, this excerpt from today's Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce article: Ida B. Wells: Wells was already an established journalist when she moved to Chicago in 1893, and she’d written extensively about racial injustice throughout the South. In Chicago, Wells continued her crusade against lynching and racial violence, which underscored the economic toll these horrors took on African-American communities. Wells argued that the climate of racial terror hampered economic investment and development in black neighborhoods, limiting business opportunities and stifling economic growth. By challenging discriminatory practices and promoting equality, Wells helped create a more inclusive and economically vibrant business environment in the city. https://lnkd.in/g6b5ppXH?

Why can't you find and hire the people you need? It's simple...THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE TO GO AROUND! If you are a hiring manager who is always wondering why your HR team can’t hire the people you need, it’s not (always) their fault. Per the research in the article below, even if we took EVERY SINGLE unemployed person…and then matched them perfectly to a role they were qualified for…we’d still be 32% short of filling open roles!! There just aren’t enough (insert MadLib Job Title Here:)___________________ to go around and fill every job. While this article is meant to highlight why “Robotics and Automation” are important for the US Economy, the big takeaway for my network should be the continuing #LaborShortage. Taylor St. Germain from ITR Economics states: “Currently, today, we have a labor shortage here in the United States, and if you’ve listened to ITR in the past, you’ve likely heard that we expect this labor shortage to continue. A number that really highlights this labor shortage or ratio rather, we look at the number of unemployed persons per job opening. That number is currently 0.684. So what does that number mean? That means, for every one open job, or open position in this country, we have 0.68 people.
