Here’s a hand grenade topic for CU board conferences. Tee this one up and watch the sparks fly! I’ve been in those rooms. As a rule of thumb, I don’t believe term limits are a great approach. However (comma) I have seen them work, and work well. That caused me to temper my stance. I do believe that every board should talk about it seriously. Term limits get rid of good, bad and mediocre directors. Whether this can be effective is very much an “it depends” answer. It depends on whether the board has an effective recruiting plan, an excellent training and onboarding plan, the fortitude to have difficult conversations and hold each other accountable, among other things. Many boards boards struggle with one or more of these issues. The board in this article seems to have high standards and performance, which can make this work well.

Mangrove has been a woman-owned business since day one (as of next month, that will be 15 years!). Even so, seeking and achieving WBENC certification was important for our team and our business. Here’s a look at some of the reasons why: - Community and collaboration: Being WBENC-Certified connects us to a community of support from other female business owners and like-minded professionals. Our status as a B Corp has taught us that being part of a community enables us to amplify our impact and the impact of others. - Opportunity: Women-owned businesses make up 39.1% of all businesses in the US, yet they lack access to federal contracting and procurement programs. WBENC-Certification provides access to supplier diversity and procurement executives at hundreds of major U.S. corporations and federal, state, and local government entities that accept WBENC Certification. - Advancement: Being part of efforts that continue to advance women-owned businesses and women’s economic empowerment is one of the best ways to ensure these efforts remain supported and can continue doing their work. Are you a member of WBENC? What does the certification mean to you? #WomenInBusiness #WomenOwnedBusiness
