The Grand Opening for the Hazel Ying Lee Apartments was a phenomenal celebration! As the largest affordable housing project built from the Portland Housing Bond, featuring 206 new homes, this project underscores the power of unity and dedication in addressing housing needs and fostering community well-being. Our appreciation to each leader who spoke to commemorate this joyful occasion- Home Forward CEO Ivory Mathews, City of Portland Commissioner Carmen Caballero Rubio, Joint Office of Homeless Services Director Daniel Field, Oregon Housing & Community Services (OHCS), Mary Li, U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, Region 10 Administrator, Andrew Lofton, and our President & CEO of Colas Construction, Andrew Colas! It was wonderful to connect with the family of Hazel Ying Lee, who served during World War II. She was a trailblazer for women and Chinese Americans in aviation, and we are forever inspired that her story will be known. A loud round of applause for our project partners and team! The COLAS Team was proud to witness Self Enhancement, Inc. accept the DJC Top Project Award for our Alberta Alive projects, the Ronnie Herndon and the Paul & Geneva Knauls Buildings! Thank you Daily Journal of Commerce Oregon for recognizing excellence in these projects, now serving families, Veterans, and more to live affordably in beautiful spaces in the heart of Alberta- we celebrate this honor with the project team! Named after prominent leaders of Portland, the Ronnie Herndon Building provides 21 homes with 90% being 2 and 3 bedrooms for families, with services from SEI. Albina One is beyond the building of a project; it's a clear vision with belief and determination coming to life— see the transformation up close. This 7-story development by Albina Vision Trust and Edlen & Company will provide 94 new, affordable one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes. Designed by LEVER Architecture, the building will have community spaces at the top and ground levels, a maker's space, an outdoor courtyard, a garden, and multiple play areas. Albina One will cater to families and individuals living in Portland, particularly those pursuing trade careers, and supported by a range of services from POIC + RAHS, including, but not limited to, mentorship, culturally specific education and training, and career placement services.
