Did you know? 🎆 Approximately 9,700 people were treated in emergency rooms for fireworks injuries in 2023, according to a report by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. 🎆 An estimated 19 percent of those injuries involved eyes, and the majority of all fireworks injuries are to bystanders. 🎆 Teenagers ages 15 to 19 years old had the highest estimated rate of emergency department-treated, fireworks-related injuries, with children ages 5-9 years old having the second highest rate. In preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, Children’s Nebraska is spreading awareness about eye safety. Stop by one of these locations to pick up a pair of *free* safety glasses and help ensure a fun, safe holiday celebration. Maximum one pair per person while supplies last. #fireworks #fireworkssafety #eyesafety #eyesafetyawareness #injuryprevention

8-year-old Caiden has big career aspirations. When he grows up, he wants to be in the Army—honoring his dad’s military service—and a doctor at Children’s Nebraska—inspired by his cancer journey. 🇺🇸👨⚕️🩺 As an active child who loves swimming and being outdoors, alarm bells went off for his parents when they began noticing consistently low energy, appetite, circulation and lots of bruising. They began looking for answers and were quickly referred to the Hematology/Oncology team at Children’s. On September 14, 2021, tests confirmed their biggest fear: leukemia. That was a defining day for Caiden and his family, followed by 28 months of appointments, chemotherapy treatments, inpatient stays and infusions. “Treatment is so intense and starts right away but Children’s does a great job of anticipating what you need to know and what you’ll be worried about. They have you covered every step of the way,” Caiden’s mom, Cari, says. “As a parent, you’re not confident because it’s a scary diagnosis; but to see his care team at Children’s so confident makes you feel like it’s going to be OK.” At Children’s, we have the privilege of caring for these courageous young fighters, helping them advance through the various phases of treatment and, ultimately, reach their mountaintop “ring the bell” moment. Beyond treatment and into adulthood, patients and families have additional support available through our Survivorship Clinic. This #CancerSurvivorsMonth, we celebrate survivors, like Caiden, and the people who help them in their journey: expert care teams and the friends and family who rally around them when it matters most. Together, we not only allow them to dream big – but help them go on to make those dreams come true. 🎗️🧡 #pediatriccancer #cancersurvivor #cancer #healthcare #pediatrics #oncology #leukemia
