Children and families of color are disproportionately represented in the child welfare system. The Family First Prevention Services Act gives us an opportunity to address this inequity with evidence-based interventions. Culturally specific interventions see the role of race and culture as central to developing solutions to challenges that families face. Familias Unidas is one of them. This drug and sexual risk prevention program is designed specifically for Hispanic first generation Spanish-speaking caregivers and adolescents and was rated as "well supported" by the Clearinghouse. How do employment patterns impact child care needs for low-income families? Chapin Hall research on the Child Care Assistance Program in Illinois sheds light on this issue. Many parents in the program work in sectors with evening and weekend work with inconsistent schedules, which means they need flexible #ChildCare options. And the majority of participating families' incomes are well below the eligibility threshold, underscoring how important this program is.
