LGBTQIA+ grantmaking has grown in the last two decades from nearly $30M to $258M. But this doesn't tell the whole story (which is less optimistic). April Bethea, director of external affairs, and Samantha Luffy, MPH, director of research for Funders for LGBTQ Issues, share the impact of inflation on how far these dollars go and how funders can work collaboratively to fill in this funding gap.

We know that more and more U.S. nonprofits are engaging with demographic data about their staff and board—but what does quality demographic data look like? Here is a hint: it's not making your best guess. Kelly Brown, founder and CEO of Viewpoint Consulting, highlights the importance of collecting this information in an inclusive and respectful way and how valuable this data can be.

Funders can unintentionally limit the impact of nonprofits by funding them to serve only a specific group or set of activities. Tackling root causes requires a different, more flexible approach. Beth Huang, program officer at the Tides Foundation, shares how investing in community organizing and giving organizations flexibility to shift to new strategies are key.

Our Candid community has grown to 1,600+ locations in 2024 from 400 partners in 2023! This program offers our tools for free at libraries and locations open to the public across the county - find one near you here: candid.org/find-us We have a dream team supporting our community partners and this growth would not be possible without Xeena Blackwell, Samantha Ryder, Diamond Rodriguez, Carla Norris, and Stef Tierney 🌟 I'm thrilled to work with libraries, nonprofits, and foundations on this program. Please get in touch if you would like to learn more about access for your community! How many nonprofit profiles are listed on Candid? We asked our staff and here is what they said. All these answers are technically correct! 90,000 is the number of claimed nonprofit profiles on Candid (or at least it was when the video was recorded, now we are over 100k) 1.8 million is the total number of nonprofit organizations that have a profile on Candid, including claimed and unclaimed. And finally, both 1.5 and 1.4 million are correct if you’re only taking into account 501(c)(3) public charities. There total is 1,488,028 501, which could be rounded down to 1.4 million or up to 1.5 million.

Unrestricted, multi-year funding, simplified paperwork, support beyond funding, and feedback for rejected applicants. It's what every nonprofit hopes for from a grant opportunity. Candace Burton shares how The Boston Foundation is making it happen through participatory grantmaking.
