I'm bowled over by my co-workers! Nearly every year, our station participates in a community clean-up as part of our #PlanetCle environmental initiative. This past Saturday, more than a dozen WKYC Studios employees braved the blazing heat to volunteer at the Cleveland Cultural Gardens. We has NO IDEA that it would be so hot when we chose June 22 as the date -- but a promise is a promise. Thank you to our volunteer gardeners --Roselyn Muniz, Dan Canterna, Ryan Radefeld, Jon Adkins, Julie Flynn, Shelly Steinmetz, Jeff Reidel, Anthony Copeland, Lynna Lai, Jay Crawford, Christi Paul, Mickey Haba -- and also to Candice Hare, Sam Garforth and Pat Woodside for being there to support us. Many of us had never walked through these lovely gardens before and it was a treat to see them up close. The people who maintain the various Cultural Gardens were effusively grateful and they just couldn’t believe that TV folks were out there pulling weeds, planting flowers and bagging up leaves. We had so many supporters! Bremec Garden Centers and Landscape Design donated everything needed to convert a ho-hum grassy space into a gorgeous landscaped garden. And Ricky Smith of R.A.K.E. (Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere) brought us ice cream! Everyone agreed...despite the heat, it was a magnificent way to spend a morning, in a beautiful, lush setting. #3cares
