My recent visit to Mackinac Island during the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Mackinac Policy Conference was well worth the trip. Besides being reminded of how beautiful it is in northern Michigan and the first time I made the trek to the conference 15 years ago as a candidate for Detroit City Council, I was excited to reconnect with friends and former colleagues from my time in state and local government. It was great to see and share a laugh and an embrace with Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II , Tyrone D. Sanders Jr., Esq. , Kimberly Hoyle, Rep. Stephanie A. Young , Hon. Joe Haveman , Kris Kraft, William Wortz , Ron Stallworth , Dichondra R. Johnson, MBA, MPA , Donald Rencher , and so many others that I didn’t get to snap a selfie with before parting ways. You know who you are and the special place you hold in my heart. Special shout out to Charity Dean, Esq. for your leadership with the Michigan Black Business Alliance! Thank you and your partners at Black Tech Saturdays and Black Leaders Detroit for hosting another installment of “Blackinac” at Kingston Kitchen. Nicely done! Can’t wait until next year! Last, but not least, thank you Bob Doyle and my friends at MICPA for always looking out for me. I appreciate the opportunity to join you, Board Chair James N. Lopiccolo and chair-elect Laurie Horvath for the Annual MICPA on Mackinac Luncheon. I made new friends and had a chance to engage in dialogue about the CPA talent pipeline and how exposure is key to advancing the accounting profession. All in all, it was a great trip and delivered on everything that I hoped to accomplish and more! Until next time… #iamlisahowze #tlhe #mackinacpolicyconference #publicpolicy #advocacy #leadership #relationshipsmatter

Such progress has been made for Black businesses and it was great to share along with challenges on Monday. Keeping excellent leadership at the State is one sure way to keep making strides..
Special thanks to Henry Ford Health CEO Robert Riney and the Detroit Pistons for hosting the "Make it in Michigan - Black Business Leaders Dialogue" at the beautiful Henry Ford Health Detroit Pistons Performance Center in New Center. "Make it in Michigan" is the state's strategy for growth through investing in People, revitalizing Places, and competing for and winning Projects. Great discussion with Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, Michigan Economic Development Corporation CEO Quentin Messer, Jr. CEcD, and Michigan Black Business Alliance CEO Charity Dean, Esq. regarding the state's efforts to ensure that communities of color have the opportunity to participate equitably in the state's prosperity. #MakeitinMichigan
