The Annual Meeting, a practice started in the 17th century by joint-stock companies like the East India Company, may seem like an outmoded LPA standard for early-stage venture firms, but I'm withholding judgment. After recently holding Beat Ventures' first annual meeting with Dave Anderson, we're seeing it continue to drive value as a source of community, collaboration, and content. Bringing together our LPs and founders in one room was powerful, a reminder that Zoom has its limits when it comes to building relationships. It has already led to partnerships between LPs and founders, and the recording of the founder and expert presentations is a valuable source of content. It was also valuable to remind our community what spurred us to start the firm in 2021 and what continues to drive us today: a fundamental belief that we must harness "augmented intelligence," a combination of human and artificial intelligence, to empower, not replace people. Last week, Colin Rogister and Dave Anderson held Beat Ventures' first Annual Meeting, bringing together our LPs, founders, and friends of the firm. We focused the meeting on our dynamic founders, the expansive visions they have for their companies, and the phenomenal progress they’ve made to date. We launched our firm two years ago with the belief that technology—AI in particular—is best suited to augment, not replace humans. The founders of our fifteen portfolio companies are building businesses in a diverse set of industries that do exactly that. They are building the infrastructure for augmented intelligence or are leveraging it to create tremendous value for their staff and their customers. Thank you so much to all of the presenters, including the founders of Stack AI, Völur, Operant AI, Central Casting AI, and Treehouse, and guest speakers Kevin Novak and Peter Walker. And huge kudos to portco Middleware for hosting us in their gorgeous new office in downtown San Francisco. We can't wait to continue to grow the Beat Ventures family and bring everyone back together again next year. Onward!
