Enhancing the lives of people in need through visual art
About us
Art with a Heart’s mission is to enhance the lives of people in need through visual art. With art as its vehicle, Art with a Heart provides Baltimore’s vulnerable children and youth with access to positive and productive programming, caring and nurturing adults on a consistent basis, and the chance to embrace new ideas and skills. Art with a Heart works to make participation in its programs a transformative experience, emphasizing for its participants that their new ideas and skills can be a foundation for creating change in their lives. In addition to more than 14,500 annual core programs, Art with a Heart offers the following complementary initiatives: • HeARTworks - a workforce development program, uses art as a vehicle to teach job skills • Art to Market - teaches job program participants and volunteers to create marketable art which is then displayed and sold to the public • Apprenticeships - encourages qualified participants who have graduated from the job program to earn money while assisting in HeARTwares and targeted sites • Arts Integration - provides engaging visual art programs to supplement academic curricula in elementary/middle schools • HeARTwares - Art with a Heart's social enterprise/retail store • Public Art Projects - often in the form of mosaic murals by community volunteers • Community Service and Service Learning • The Art of Leadership - introduces and/or reinforces leadership competencies to provide students the skills to help solve community problems and enhance their civic participation.

So good!!!
TBT 2015-2024 - On Sunday, June 23rd, the 9th Cohort of Art of Leadership students graduated. Just as the eight cohorts before them, this group of teens were smart, motivated, interesting and interested. They personify hope and I am fortunate to observe their growth and learning through their time in the program. The graduation made me think about the launch of the program in August 2015. It was important to me that the launch came with lots of energy and enthusiasm and Gov. Wes Moore brought both as the first speaker of the inaugural cohort. And we have been fortunate every year since with impactful, inspiring guest speakers for the first sessions (some even came back more than once!). Thank you Gov. Wes Moore, Chris Wilson , D Watkins, Dr. LaMarr Darnell Shields, Alicia Wilson, and Christopher "CJ" Gross for sharing your stories with the students and providing insight and wisdom as they were beginning their leadership journey with Art with a Heart. It’s hard to believe that in two short months, the organization will launch its 10th cohort of the Art of Leadership students. Who do you think should be our guest speaker for the first session of this milestone year? #roadto25 #awah25 #leadership

#tbt 2016 Art with a Heart was consistently programming with children in West Baltimore at The Kids Safe Zone. After the Freddie Gray unrest in 2015, The Kids Safe Zone was established in an abandoned laundromat to fill the need for a safe and positive place for children during out of school time hours. This photograph is one of my absolute Art with a Heart favorites! A student seeing for the first time that yellow and blue blended together make green. The photo reminds me of a quote by Glenn Gould, “The purpose of art is the lifelong construction of a state of wonder.”#awah25 #roadto25
