🚀 Reflections from the Women in Fintech Forum: The Future of Fintech in the Cloud 🚀
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Women in Fintech Forum, a gathering that discussed the transformative role of cloud technology in the Fintech industry and showcased the vibrant leadership of women steering this change. Thank you to Sasha Pilch and her team at NYC Fintech Women for organizing the event.
Key Takeaways:
🌐 Global Expansion Through Cloud: Cathy Ross, Co-founder of Fraud.net discussed how AWS enables rapid global scaling, transforming entry to new markets from months to hours.
🌟 Accessible Financial Planning: Shruti Joshi, President and COO of Facet Wealth emphasized democratizing financial advice. Cloud tech allows them to rapidly innovate, introduce new product features weekly, and making services available to more people, not just the wealthy.
🤖 Generative AI's Role: AI is revolutionizing fintech by enhancing customer engagement and streamlining operations, setting new standards for efficiency.
🚺 Empowering Women in Fintech: Panelists highlighted challenges women face, such as funding disparities and the need for more women in leadership roles.
📈 Fintech Investing Insights: VCs discussed the future shaped by AI and digital assets, focusing on efficiency and access to financial services.
I will say there was one thing mentioned with which I disagreed. During the Q&A, a panelist asked why more venture funds don’t just commit to investing in more women founders in the fund’s specific thesis area. One response was that this focus would lead to a decreased pipeline of opportunities. I have to say, I respectfully disagree with this narrative.
At Anthemis Group, we have taken the view that there is not a pipeline problem, but rather a network problem (amongst other issues, of course). Venture capitalists leverage their personal networks to find opportunities and may need to think about actively expanding their network to find talented women entrepreneurs. Anthemis Group committed to investing in female founders in Fintech since its founding, and in 2019, we doubled down with our Female Innovators Lab Fund, which is the largest early-stage Fintech Fund dedicated to companies founded by women.
Let's keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible in fintech!
