Members of Congress Frank J. Mrvan, Terri Sewell and Beth Van Duyne reinforced their support of the domestic steel industry at the Senate Swamp on Capitol Hill today, expressing the importance of passing the Leveling the Playing Field 2.0 Act. The legislation is aimed at bolstering US trade remedy laws to curb unfair trade practices hurting the steel industry. “Predatory pricing, state subsidies and other unfair trade practices have distorted global markets, allowing countries such as China to dump cheap steel in the US markets, undercutting the domestic procedures, threatening our very existence in steel industry,” Mrvan said. “Congress must take action to update our trade laws to address these and other trade-distorting practices,” American Iron and Steel Institute said, urging members of Congress to cosponsor the LTPF 2.0, which currently has 82 cosponsors in both the Senate and the House. Today, four organizations representing the American steel industry and the United Steelworkers took their case to Capitol Hill urging action on legislation strengthening U.S. trade remedy laws to crack down on unfair trade practices and enhance the enforcement tools needed to combat repeat offenders of the U.S. trade remedy laws. Nearly 30 attendees representing steel producers, pipe and tube manufacturers and union workers across the United States highlighted that dumped and subsidized steel from China and elsewhere has harmed the American steel industry and applauded the introduction of the “Leveling the Playing Field 2.0 Act (LTPF). The chief House sponsors of LTPF, Reps. Sewell and Van Duyne along with Rep. Mrvan held a press conference and rally with steel fair trade supporters. AISI president and CEO Kevin Dempsey said, “The American steel industry has faced repeated surges of unfairly traded steel imports in recent years —due largely to dumped and subsidized imports from many countries and regions, including those that produce steel with higher carbon intensity than U.S. steelmakers. By strengthening the effectiveness of the U.S. trade laws, this bill will help give the American public confidence that their government has every tool available to fight for a level playing field for the American steel industry and our workers. We thank the sponsors and cosponsors of the LTPF legislation and the leadership of the Steel Caucus for their continued support of the American steel industry and our workers.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eH7aun94

A record 60.6 million people are expected to travel by car for the Fourth of July holiday, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). And a recent survey by The Vacationer said 75% of Americans intend to take at least one road trip this summer. In short, Americans are hitting the road this season, and probably crossing a short span steel bridge on their travels. Learn more in a new Steel Market Update op-ed by AISI's Dan Snyder.
