Earlier this month, Action Against Hunger alongside World Vision Kenya, CARE Kenya and Scaling Up Nutrition CSA Kenya had a productive meeting with Dr. Sultan Matendechero, Deputy Director for Health, at Ministry of Health, Kenya. The team underscored the power of strengthened collaboration with the government to enhance health outcomes in Kenya, following the ECSA ministerial meeting and the Nutrition for Growth accountability workshop in Arusha, Tanzania.
Discussions centred on the government's priority of strengthening primary health care, with a focus on health promotion and disease prevention. By investing in these areas, Kenya has the potential to save up to 90% of the health budget, redirecting funds to development and sustainability projects.
The importance of addressing gender and protection issues, maternal, child, and adolescent health and nutrition, WASH, and mental health care were also emphasised particularly in the face of climate-induced disasters that have driven many into poverty. The need for data-driven evidence to support effective programming was highlighted as well as the necessity of a unified approach to health involving all sectors, civil society organisations, and development partners.
The participants agreed to continue engagements and collaboration towards regional and global health and nutrition initiatives, including ECSA resolutions, Nutrition for Growth commitments, and climate change.
Together, we aim to connect and harness our shared and unique resources for improved health and nutrition for all. #ForEveryone #ForGood
