Thank you to everyone who attended our 6th Annual Computer Science Education Heroes Awards! It was a wonderful night celebrating the hard work and dedication of our teachers, students, staff and supporters. Our work would not be possible without each and every one of you. Together, we were able to raise $75,000 for our Get Coding program. This means we can continue to provide transformative CS Education to thousands of elementary school students across the city of Los Angeles! 👏🎊   A special thank you to everyone who donated and to each of our vendors for helping make this event come to life.

On Friday we celebrated Black History Month in collaboration with Google at Kelly Elementary School in Compton. Over 300 students gathered to gain insights from 11 Googlers regarding their positions at one of the globe’s leading companies. The Googlers not only discussed their individual journeys but also educated students about Afrofuturism, which is a creative movement that explores the intersection of African culture, history, and technology. At 9 Dots, we understand the significance of representation, and we are fully dedicated to featuring individuals who mirror the diversity of our students. We are so grateful for Google and these courageous individuals who openly shared their unique stories, inspiring our students and demonstrating that they too can pursue a tech career.

This past Friday Fastly invited us to their Culver City headquarters! Fastly is a cloud computing company that makes the internet faster and safer for us all to use. During our visit, students rotated between 3 stations where they learned about Technical Writing, Project Management, and of course, Coding! 🍞 Station 1: Technical Writing for making a PB&J. Students learned about Technical Writing by brainstorming instructions on how to make a PB&J sandwich and being challenged to write concise, specific instructions that can help others complete tasks efficiently and correctly. 🖊 Station 2: Project Management using the Sprint Process. Students learned how to use the Sprint Process by planning a birthday party with the Fastly team. Software developers use this process to complete projects. 💻 Station 3: A Fastly themed coding challenge. Students used concepts they're currently learning with 9 Dots to efficiently code the Fastly logo! Thank you Fastly for having us and for inspiring our students to pursue an exciting career in CS!
