The Government of Karnataka signed a Letter of Intent in November 2023 and entered into a two-year partnership with Meta for digital education and online user safety for students. As part of this initiative, the Digital Nagarik and AR-VR Skills Program was launched by Minister for IT/BT Sri Priyank Kharge in Bengaluru, involving various departments of school, higher, and technical education. Karnataka is the first state to partner with Meta on this initiative. Under this online safety initiative, 10 lakh students aged 18 to 24 from different schools, colleges, and universities across the state will receive digital awareness training. Meta will also train and deploy master trainers across these institutions, who will, in turn, train the students in digital safety knowledge and AR-VR skills. As part of the launch, 500 participants, including nodal officers and teachers who will serve as master trainers, joined the event. A 60-minute training session covered digital age opportunities (AI, AR, VR) and online safety. The Government of Karnataka recognizes the urgent need to address cybersecurity at the grassroots level. We are committed to empowering our students with the education they need to protect themselves from ever-evolving cyber threats. This campaign is not just about teaching our children how to create strong passwords or recognize phishing scams; it is about instilling a mindset of vigilance and responsibility that will stay with them for life.
