Requests: Library Retrieval System (LRS) and recall requests

All eligible UTS Library clients may request an item from the Library’s underground storage facility (LRS). Please allow up to two hours for delivery.
UTS & UTS College staff and students may request a recall to books from the UTS Library collection if the book is on loan and no other copy is available (excluding Reserve items).

Requesting library items

How to request an item:

  • go to the Library home page and sign into My Library
  • search the Library catalogue and find the book you need
  • for items marked “Out on loan”, under "Get It" select “Request”
  • for items held in the LRS you will see “Available at UTS Library Request from Library Retrieval System”. Under "Get It" select “Request”

You will be notified via email when the item is ready for collection.
All recall requests and LRS requests are held for 7 days in Reserve located near the Service Desk on level 7.

Loan renewals

Renewal options depend on your membership level and the material type/collection, please see above table for details.

Most General Collection items now have automated renewals unless the item has been requested or recalled by another client.

To renew an item:

  • sign in to MyLibrary
  • select “Loans”
  • either select “Renew all” or select individual items and select “Renew Selected”

Loan returns

There are three loan return chutes located in UTS Central (CB02)

  • Level 4 Student Learning Hub (located near the centre of the level)
  • Level 5 UTS Reading Room (located outside the Reading Room to the left of the entrance gates)
  • Level 7 Library entrance (located outside the Library to the left of the entrance gates)

Laptops need to be returned to the Laptop dispenser on level 7, within the Library.

How to use return chutes

  • Place first item under the red line.
  • Once the chute door opens (it will make an opening sound) place all your items into the chute one after another.

Fines and fees

If your item is not returned to the library by the due date, you will be charged a replacement fee for the item. This fee will be waived if the item is returned.

$100.00 or more in fees suspends borrowing and prevents UTS students from accessing exam results, re-enrolment, and graduation.

Fees on overdue items are detailed in the Access and Borrowing Guidelines.
