Wednesday's Child: Destinee

"I really love animals," said Destinee, 16, at the Texas A&M Winnie Carter Wildlife Center as she looked at an exotic bird. "They're so sweet."

Destinee, who is up for adoption, is as curious as a cat. Or, as is more common at the wildlife center, a serval.

"Come on Morpheus," Destinee futilely called to the big cat in a large pen. "Come here."

At the wildlife center, Destinee spent the day doing what she loves--exploring.

"Felt hard," exclaimed Destinee over a tortoise's shell.

"I like learning to know what I could do," said Destinee, who currently lives with a foster family.

Destinee likes a lot of things: reading, school work, laughing with friends, skateboarding.

"The first day that I got my skateboard I fell off," said Destinee. "I've been practicing."

She's not afraid of hard work or commitment.

"I started drawing when I was about three," said Destinee. "Because it calms me down with my nerves and everything."

Destinee desperately wants to get close, not just with animals, but with a forever family.

"That would feel good," she said. "Somebody that I could stay with--and they trust me, and they know how I feel."

She's just waiting for her introduction.
