“My name is Ashley, I live in Houston, and my favorite country singer is Luke Bryan,” Ashley, 11, calls into a microphone at 98.3 KORA, the Texas Country radio station in Bryan.

Ashley, who usually spends her days going to fourth grade, is spending this day living one of her many dreams: singing along to her country anthems with the KORA deejays.

“Play it again, play it again, play it again,” sings Ashley, in tune with Luke Bryan’s popular single.

Ashley lives in foster care. When she’s not enjoying country music, she’s studying up for school. Her favorite subjects?

“Recess, math, science,” said Ashley—particularly, it seems, science.

“[In] science, you get to do explosions,” said Ashley with a laugh. “It makes me feel excited because I like that I am doing science and getting better at it.”

Ashley also spends time with friends, joking and dancing.

“I like dancing because, I don't know, it's just fun,” said Ashley. “And it reminds me of my mom and dad dancing.”

Now, Ashley's looking for the parents that will stick around—the family that's forever. She says she would like to talk to them about “any issues that are going on, like bullying.”

“[And] play games; spend time with them,” said Ashley.

There is no cost to adopt a child like Ashley out of Texas foster care. In addition, that child will receive free tuition to a Texas state college or university when the time comes.
