Combat SAMBO competitions will be held as part of The World Games to be held in Chengdu, People's Republic of China, from 7-17 August 2025.
The 2024 World Sambo Cup has recently been added to the calendar of the International SAMBO Federation (FIAS).
The Japanese Sambo Championship was held in Tokyo on 4th February. In the 50th anniversary year of the tournament, competitions were held in men's and women's Sport SAMBO and men's Combat SAMBO. There were also tournaments for masters and high school students.
The World Cadets, Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships will be held on 11-13 October in Larnaca, Cyprus, as it was decided by the members of the Executive Committee of the International SAMBO Federation.
A second tournament, dedicated to the memory of the legendary sambist Alexander Pushnitsa, was held in Chile. The competition took place at the La Paloma sports complex, located in one of the urban communities of the city of Santiago.
The first national SAMBO competition took place in Burkina Faso from 26 to 28 January. The tournament was organised by the Burkinabe SAMBO Sports Association with the support of the African Initiative Association, reports "burkina24.com". Dozens of athletes competed in various weight categories, including both girls and boys.
The city of La Paz, capital of the department of the same name in Bolivia, hosted a sambo demonstration on 26 January. The event was organised in honour of the official recognition of SAMBO as a sport that is developing in La Paz.
The European Sambo Championships and the European Youth and Junior Sambo Championships will be held in the Serbian city of Novi Sad from 9 to 12 May. The tournament will be held in the SPENS arena, which is well known to many sambists.
The composition of the FIAS Athletes' Commission, renewed following the results of the 2023 elections, has elected its new leader. According to the results of the electronic voting, the representative of the Philippines, Sydney Sy, was elected as Chairperson of the FIAS.
The FIAS International Coaching Seminar will be held in the Netherlands on the 3rd of March. The event will take place in Dalfsen the day after the international SAMBO tournament DSI Dutch Open.
The Balkan Open Sambo Championship was held in Amintayo, Greece, on the 22nd and 23rd of December. The tournament was attended by about 100 cadets and young men from 7 countries: Greece, Moldova, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Serbia and Ukraine.
Bulgarian sambist Ivan Harkov won the World Championship title in Yerevan in November 2023. It was the first world title for Bulgaria in 10 years. In an interview with bTV, Harkov talked about his way to the gold medal.
The third edition of the National SAMBO Tournament "Coppa del Lazio" took place in Rome on Sunday 10 December. It was the last of the five national ranking tournaments of the year, in which Italian athletes from six regions took part.
The Haitian National Sambo Championship was held on 17 December at the Jo-Vahna sports complex in the city of Carrefour. According to the organising committee, 79 sambists from various regions of the country took part in the tournament. Competitions were organised in Sport SAMBO and Combat SAMBO among men and women.
The President of the International SAMBO Federation, Vasily Shestakov, summed up the 2023 and talked about the New Year in his speech.
