Imamaddin Khalilov continued his dream run in Veracruz as he won a World Para Taekwondo Championship gold, less than a week after a victory at the World Para Taekwondo Grand Prix at the same venue.
The Azerbaijan fighter won a fourth title of the year after his victory in the K44 men’s under-70 kilograms final, defeating Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Alikulov.
Brazil won two women’s titles, with Silvana Mayara Cardoso Fernandes winning the K44 under-57kg final, after her opponent Gamze Gürdal of Turkey retired with an injured finger.

Ana Carolina Silva de Moura triumphed in the K44 under-65kg final, winning a first World Championship title after defeating Tokyo 2020 Paralympics silver medallist Beth Munro of Britain.
In the men’s K44 under-63kg, victory went to Turkey’s Mahmut Bozteke, who claimed a shock win over Italy’s Antonino Bossolo, with bronze medals going to Paralympic champion Nathan Torquato of Brazil and 2021 world champion Bolor-Erdene Ganbat of Mongolia.
The final title of the day up for grabs at the World Trade Centre came in the men’s K41 under-71kg category with Kazakhstan’s Siyazbek Daliyev claiming victory.
