Para powerlifter Lasha Alelishvili has been banned for two years after tamoxifen was found in a urine sample he provided at the European Open Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia last year.
Tamoxifen, an estrogen receptor modulator, which is used to treat cancers, is on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited list.
Alelishvili, who represents Georgia, is ineligible from all sporting competition and activities between March 9 2023 and March 8 2025.
Alelishvili’s results from the date of sample collection through to the start of his provisional suspension have been disqualified.

At the 2021 Para Powerlifting Senior World Championships, also in Tbilisi, Alelishvili placed 27th in the men’s up-to-65 kilograms category.
Alelishvili has accepted that he committed an anti-doping rule violation and the ban imposed for the breach of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Anti-Doping Code.
In issuing the ban, the IPC said: "Each athlete is strictly liable for the substances found in their sample.
"As a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code, the IPC remains committed to a doping-free sporting environment at all levels."
