Las Vegas: Blue Men, BattleBots and Gordon Ramsay’s Beef Wellington on our Sin City break

The Las Vegas strip

Kevin Beirne

Of all the cities on my list to visit, Las Vegas was the one that stood out as unusual. I have no interest whatsoever in falseness of a place like Dubai but for some reason, there was something oddly charming about Sin City. Amid all the bright lights and the gaudy displays of wealth, there was a knowing smile. A sort of in joke, that it knew that it was ridiculous.

So when my partner and I decided to take a road trip on the west coast of the US this Easter, we knew Vegas had to be one of our stops. As it worked out, we pulled into the city on a Friday afternoon, ready to make the most of our two nights there with a packed schedule.
