Women’s Discussion Groups: ‘I do think that the female role in a farm is a lot bigger than what some of the men are doing’

Women’s groups help female farmers to build confidence and learn skills

When Teagasc advisor Sandra Hayes recently hosted a school group on a farm, a young girl came up to her and said: “Hi Sandra, you don’t remember me, but daddy used to bring me to a Discussion Group.”

That foray into a Teagasc Discussion Group had sparked an interest in her and she is now studying Ag Science at school and planning a career in agriculture, which Sandra says is a really positive thing.
