Hello Dear Fellow Goodreaders!

I am a fire chaplain and a writer. I am also a life long student of religion, a passionate lover of story, and am perpetually fascinated by the mysteries of love and death.

I am in love with books.  Infatuated.  Obsessed.  I am haunted by the thought that there are so many wonderful stories to read, essential stories, important, life altering ones, and I shall never have the time to get to them all.  I love novels, myths, fairy tales, epics of war, and stories told by firefighters sitting around the kitchen table.

Why do I read?  To know that I am alive.  To know that hope and humanity exist in the world.  To remember that some people spend years of their life, not watching reality TV or pornography, but trying

I am currently writing my next novel which is about a wounded female veteran, an ancient stolen tablet, Mesopotamian religion, and blood antiquities. I will return to the Nightwalker series after this current novel is finished. All sorts of ideas for the next Nightwalker book are simmering in my brain. Readers have made wonderful suggestions for future characters which I'm carefully pondering. Perhaps Shelley or Lord Byron may turn up and I'm very curious about Polidori who wrote The Vampyre one long night when he was holed up with Shelley, Mary Shelley and Byron in a castle. They may have all been high on absinthe, but I'm not entirely sure on this point. This was the night when Frankenstein was conceived in Mary Shelley's imagination. So much to work with!(less)

The book is a wild ride. It's fascinating, shocking, mind blowing, and somewhat exhausting. I find I need to take breaks to process Grey's maniacal musings on this goddess.

Grey is a writer and partner in Scarlet Imprint, a press of the occult. He produces books which are physically beautiful and works of art in their own right.

Here's the description of his book on Babalon from his website Scarlet Imprint (http://scarletimprint.com/books/the-r...)

The Red Goddess takes you through a tale of sex, drugs and violence. This is an ecstatic journey through the unheard history of Babalon. This is an explicit and challenging vision of a very modern goddess coming into power. From Revelation, back through the Ishtar Gate and forward into a living modern magickal current. This is more than a history, it is a passionate account of living magick and the transcendent power of Love.

The epic sweep of the text takes us from Babylon to Jerusalem to Rome, and onwards to Apocalypse. It confronts us with the language and symbols of our own culture and the denied demonic feminine. It looks at the Angelic work of renaissance mage John Dee and places it in a European eschatology. It delivers a devastating exegesis on the excesses of Aleister Crowley, and unlocks the secrets of ‘Waratah Blossoms.’ It explains the immolation of the Californian antichrist-superstar Jack Parsons and his relationship with Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. There is also a full supporting cast of Solomon, Simon Magus, St John the Divine, Earl Bothwell, the Templars, Mary, the Magdalene and countless others. This is the missing history of the Love goddess in the West.

Thirteen essays conclude the book on subjects including: roses, mirror magick, bdsm, aphrodisiac drugs, the information age, love vs lust, and the meaning of apocalypse. The Red Goddess is for anyone with blood in their veins, regardless of tradition, background or experience. It is a love story, and a dangerous one at that.

There are gates in our mind, our heart, and the manifest world.  There are gates to Heaven and gates to Hell.  To far-flung galaxies and different realities right here on Earth.  Ten thousand gates with ten thousand keys.  An image can unlock them.  An experience.  A painting, photograph, a war or a love.  A single word.  Even a wall.  And all the

“Why do I read? To know that I am alive. To know that hope and humanity exist in the world. To remember that some people spend years of their life, not watching reality TV or pornography, but trying to create something meaningful and lasting and beautiful. I read to know what is possible.”
Gea Haff

“I like my blood warm. I find cold blood as appetizing as an old stale cup of coffee. It's hard to choke down, but then again I'm finicky.”
Gea Haff, Anne Brontë: Nightwalker

“Long ago I was a teacher and then a writer, but now I am a tender of broken bodies and injured souls.”
Gea Haff, Anne Brontë: Nightwalker

“God is a slick god. Temple Knows. She knows because of all the crackerjack miracles still to be seen on this ruined globe.”
Alden Bell, The Reapers are the Angels

“All of a sudden, there is no hurry. There will be time for everything. For the breezes that blow and for the rainwater drying in the gutters, for Maury to find a place of safety in the world, for Malcolm to come back from the dead and ask her about birds and jets. For the big things too, things like beauty and vengeance and honor and righteousness and the grace of God and the slow spilling of the earth from day to night and back to day again.
It is spread out before her, compressed into one single moment. She will be able to see it all.”
Alden Bell, The Reapers are the Angels

“To see and know the worst is to take from Fear her main advantage.”
Charlotte Brontë, Villette

“Yet it would be your duty to bear it, if you could not avoid it: it is weak and silly to say you cannot bear what it is your fate to be required to bear.”
Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

“In the end, it is our defiance that redeems us. If wolves had a religion – if there was a religion of the wolf – that it is what it would tell us.”
Mark Rowlands, The Philosopher and the Wolf

Gosh, Joe, thank you for the kind words. I was quite attached to my little wolf-girl avatar, but I figured I couldn't hide forever and that perhaps it was time to reveal myself. It was kind of scary, so your words are very appreciated. And, thanks for the confidence in my novel! Oh, to have an author's photo someday!
