4.5 ☆

Riley Sager is known for his dramatic and over the top twists and while I didn’t like the other book I read from him, I had so much fun with The Only One Left. I loved the isolated setting of the secluded mansion on the cliff, the atmosphere was almost creepy in a sense because of it. i enjoyed the aspect of Lenore having to communicate with letters through the typewriter too. the plot moved quickly and I was invested immediately in what had happened in the past with the murders and trying to figure out if Lenore actually killed her family. the writing was great at keeping me in suspense and some of the twists caught me off guard — the last 20% is truly non stop reveals. I would’ve gave this 5 stars just based on enjoyment but I was not a fan of the final twist at all.. at that point it felt like the author was dragging it, like alright let’s calm down. 🙄 I’m looking forward to getting back to his other books now though.

⇢ I listened to this on audio and I’d highly recommend! the two narrators definitely delivered, the audiobook was perfect for this story in particular.

Imme van Gorp I like dramatic twists but sometimes they can be TOO over the top. Like, it just becomes TOO unbelievable at that point and you’re like; no✋🏼
