🗣️ Outlier Alert!!
Was it all the hype? Was it the high expectations I went into this book with? Whatever it was- it didn’t work for me. I’m a huge Lisa Jewell fan, and this is my least favorite book of hers to date (I know, it even hurts me to say this). I felt this book was super long and drawn-out, and I couldn’t wait for it to end. The podcast/Netflix episode idea within a book was unique, and probably worked really well for an audiobook- but I read this book, so it didn’t really work for me.
This book starts off with Alix Summer out for her 45th birthday with some family and friends. While she is out, she meets her “birthday twin”, Josie Fair. Alix hosts a pretty popular podcast, and Josie maneuvers her way into Alix’s life- therefore forming the “Birthday Twin” podcast. Through this podcast we learn about the strange and weird life of Josie Fair. Not only was Josie’s life strange, but her upbringing was almost nonexistent (can’t really think of a better word).
All I know is that Josie’s character bothered me, and maybe that’s why I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I wanted to? There was something that happened that just made me lose interest in this book about halfway through. 🤷🏻♀️
This is a very highly rated book, so don’t go by my opinion- which for the record I am giving this book a very generous three stars.

Agree! I heard the audio was the way to go. Unfortunately I read it too! Sorry it didn’t work for you either! Great review!

Excellent review, Rachel! You certainly aren't alone in your opinion - this book seems to have garnered extreme emotions. I like Lisa Jewell's works, but will give this one a miss. Sorry it didn't go well for you, and hope your next read clicks much better. ♥

I would love to meet a birthday twin too (although, maybe not after reading this book 😳) Lol! Also, I would recommend the more recent “The Family Upstairs “, and “The Family Remains”, by Jewell. And some of her later works such as “Watching You”, and “The House We Grew Up In”. She has so many that I have really enjoyed, this one just did not vibe with me at all… I hope you enjoy this book, or at least one that I recommended. 🙂
You’re not alone!! I have met several birthday twins and none of them are psycho. None of them were met under such made up circumstances either 😆

I am deaf so I get that reading it is very different than an audiobook. I gave this 3.5 rounded down because of the title and the ending. Excellent review, Rachel explaining your reasons and I hope you love your next read. 💕🤗

I agree with your review. I expected so much more and after I closed the book, I thought….why did I read that entire book?

I really do feel similarly to you, Rachel. This book was too dark for me, so I really didn't enjoy it, I just felt she provided enough for me to want to get to the end. Great honest review! 🙂
